Locations[edit]
Where would one go about listing locations of Stalhrim deposits? So far I have found three locations including:
-The Raven Rock Ebony mine (At least one piece)
-On a small island off the coast of Solstheim near the Northshore Landing where there are two coffins with Stalhrim deposits in them.
-Two deposits in the Gyldenhul Barrow near the dead adventurer.
Obviously there are more deposits than that but I haven't found them yet. I'm not sure where a list of locations since this is a general Stalhrim page.
- I added a table to the article, to document places with deposits/samples. Feel free to fill up the table. ~ Psylocke 15:01, 7 December 2012 (GMT)

More effective enchants?[edit]
From the Dragonborn loading screens page:
"Frost enchantments are more potent when placed on Stalhrim weapons or armor."
Can anyone confirm this? If so, how much more effective are these enchantments?
Spiegel1 (talk) 16:40, 7 December 2012 (GMT)
- At 100 enchanting the difference was about 10 points. The extra effect also applies to the Chaos Damage enchantment from the Champion's cudgel. — Unsigned comment by Romandoug (talk • contribs) at 05:54 on 21 December 2012
-
- I believe Frost enchants are 25% better. With max enchanting(5/5), a normal weapon will give 25 points of frost damage. A Stalhrim weapon will give 31 points of damage. I created a normal frost weapon (25 points) and then put on the Dukan mask (+25% frost damage) - the frost damage jumped from 25 to 31 points. I might be wrong, but it seems like 25%.

- This seems to be consistent with game data. There is a perk called "Stalhrim Enchanting" which multiplies the enchantment power by 1.25 if the item has the keyword for stalhrim weapon, armor or light armor. For weapons the enchantment must have the MagicDamageFrost keyword, for armor MagicEnchResistsFrost. The perk is referenced by the DLC2init quest, and probably added to the PC there. Strangely enough the description to the perk is "Frost enchantments are 10% stronger". --Alfwyn (talk) 14:30, 21 December 2012 (GMT)

Respawning[edit]
Stalhrim appears to respawn after a month or so. I checked back at both Raven Rock Mine and the Stalhrim source, and every ore vein had respawned. Thoughts on this? — Unsigned comment by 98.233.140.154 (talk) at 01:08 on 9 December 2012

Level of Armor/Weapons[edit]
Since this page displays huh tags and I was asked about the level: I think that the concept of a level for items is flawed in general. Particular for Stalhrim gear the situation is this: Armor appears at level 36 in a list for blacksmiths, Weapons at level 35. At levels (different for individual items) 35-39 they begin to show in random loot. And at level 1 Stalhrim armor can appear on bosses. --Alfwyn (talk) 22:51, 14 December 2012 (GMT)
- Can you loot the Stalhrim armor once you kill the boss? If so, then I would agree. If not, then I would say the concept is still intact. Quillan (talk) 20:02, 15 December 2012 (GMT)
- Yes, you can loot stalhrim equipment from bosses. — ABCface◥ 16:41, 17 December 2012 (GMT)
- If I understand the mechanics properly, the "level" of gear is the point where it begins to appear on the appropriate lists. For vendors the "level" is equal to the PC character level, but for other applications it varies. For some chests it's the PC level plus or minus a certain value, as much as 12 in some cases if I remember correctly. Stalhrim should be roughly equal to dragonplate in level, since the armor has the same ratings as it does. I could see it appearing a bit earlier as a loot drop, if the boss is based on "PC level + x" or some such, but appearing at level 1 seems extreme. Is that perhaps a bug, or a design oversight on the part of the developers? I suppose we'll need to wait for the PC release before we can access the CK data on it and see how the lists are structured. Quillan (talk) 15:37, 20 December 2012 (GMT)

Quality of Stalhrim weapons.[edit]
I have compared the base damage for Stalhrim weapons with that of other materials (Ebony, Daedric, Dragon, etc.), and it looks like Stalhrim weapons have the same base damage as Ebony weapons, but are lighter. Confirm if you like, but either way this discovery should be added to the page.

- It's already there, way up at the top, in the very first paragraph. Quillan (talk) 02:24, 24 December 2012 (GMT)
Chaos Damage Enchantments stronger on Stahlrim Weapons[edit]
- This needs to be mentioned. Using chaos damage and frost damage on a stahlrim weapon creates one of the strongest possible attacks in the game. The damage is high enough to offput the resistances of most enemies, and really only weaker enemies like Ice wraiths have a 100% frost immunity. Romandoug (talk) 07:22, 28 December 2012 (GMT)
Darkfall Cave in Dawnguard Expansion[edit]
This is during the lengthy hike quest, Touching the Sky. Once you pass through the portal and get to your first falmer village starting from the human skeleton in the center of it looks to me like the same texture for Stalhrim that the skeleton is standing it. Past the skeleton "artwork" around the bend you will eventulallly come accross what looks like rocks of Stalhrim. You can't mine them but it looks as though the texture for Stalhrim was used here well before the Dragonborn expansion came out. --67.185.108.121 09:14, 4 February 2013 (GMT)
Page Says 20 Locations[edit]
The page says there is presently 20 locations known throughout Dragonborn, yet if one counts the numbers up under the table, I got 19. Is there another location someone found and didn't put it on the page? Minor miscalculation? What?
Edit: Wasn't signed in when posting above. Kalbintion (talk) 22:44, 10 February 2013 (GMT)
- The number was added here. It seems to me like one source is missing from the table. —Legoless (talk) 22:48, 10 February 2013 (GMT)
-
- It's only 19 different locations. There are 3 deposits in Kolbjorn Barrow, but only two seem to be reachable. The third (DB03864d) is outside the map, even after completing the quest Unearthed. While the location changes often during the quest, I don't think the third deposit is reachable at any time. --Alfwyn (talk) 15:46, 11 February 2013 (GMT)
Halbarn Favor Quest[edit]
Forgive me for not diving in and doing this myself, but I'm still new to wiki editing and I'm not sure about the formatting. That said, I think this page would benefit from the addition of mentioning the Halbarn Favor Quest. It's another use of Stalhrim besides smithing and I imagine some players would like to be alerted to it before using up all of their Stalhrim on crafting stuff.

source respawn? graphic error or?[edit]
I stayed away from the source for quite some time and when I returned to the "source" it graphically appeared that all the ore had repsawned. However, it actually has nothing to mine and when you click on "ice" it just lets you loot the corpses underneath it. Dragonalumni (talk) 09:37, 17 February 2013 (GMT)
- This is probably the same as the similar mining bug discussed much under the Mining talk page. —MortenOSlash (talk) 07:27, 23 March 2013 (GMT)
No heavy shield[edit]
There is no heavy armor stalhrim shield, and the light armor shield does not have "light" in its name. Is this a bug/oversight or is it intentional? To me it feels like a mistake, either way i think the page should have a comment/note about the "missing" shield. — Unsigned comment by 87.241.92.239 (talk) at 02:42 on 20 February 2013 (GMT)
- There is only one shield type, mostly because shields don't use perks.--Br3admax (talk) 02:54, 20 February 2013 (GMT)
- Are you saying Juggernaut (and Agile Defender) does not do anything for shields? Hmm, the pages I linked says exactly that. Thanks for enlightening me. — Unsigned comment by 87.241.92.124 (talk) at 00:31 on 21 February 2013 (GMT)
- The notes under the tables clearly say that the perks don't affect shields... You might want to get glasses. 92.136.111.56 16:16, 21 February 2013 (GMT)

Get armor / weapons without smithing?[edit]
Is it possible to find Stalhrim armor / weapons, either by leveled random loot, bandit or enemy equipment, at specific permanent places or buying it from a blacksmith? Or is it only obtainable by smithing it yourself?
WeeziMonkey (talk) 09:49, 22 February 2013 (GMT)
- Easiest to just smith it yourself, it does show up randomly but extremely rare, like rarer then Dragonscale armor and Dragonbone armor/weapons. Only guaranteed ones I know of so far is the War Ax that Frea has, and the Deathbrand armor. Lord Eydvar Talk|Contribs 09:51, 22 February 2013 (GMT)

- There is a 75% chance that you can buy a random piece of stalhrim armor and weapon from Glover Mallory, Halbarn Iron-Fur and Baldor Iron-Shaper if your level is high enough (35/36/40 for different pieces) . --Alfwyn (talk) 12:08, 22 February 2013 (GMT)
- At level 31, Baldor Iron-Shaper sold stalrim armor with a fortify stamina regen 50% before starting a new source for stalrim . Also after a few in-game weeks, when his inventory must have restocked several times, he sold the same piece of armor with the same enchantment. Is this just really good luck, or is baldor set to always sell some stalrim or something? Nighthunter987 (talk) 09:14, 21 March 2013 (GMT)

Etymology[edit]
"Stalhrim" appears to be a combination of the Icelandic words for "steel" and "rime," rime being "a white ice that forms when the water droplets in fog freeze to the outer surfaces of objects" (Wikipedia, "Hard Rime"). 174.6.51.17 00:55, 21 March 2013 (GMT)
- That's actually a very good catch. For those reading this, it needs accents to show up correctly on translators: stálhrím or stál hrím. Translation shows up as "steel frost" for me both ways, and it definitely sounds like an influence. If nobody opposes, I'd like to add this to a page, but I'm not sure whether it should be the Bloodmoon or lore namespace. Vely►t►e 01:16, 21 March 2013 (GMT)
- It makes more sense to put it in the Lore section than in Bloodmoon, although in both case this info will probably go unnoticed by most people. Elakyn (talk) 07:11, 21 March 2013 (GMT)
- I agree. It seems that the developers of bloodmoon would have came up with the name stalhrim through the Icelandic language. I think this is potentially an important piece of loreworthy information which should not be ignored. Any in favor of adding to lore article? I say I. Nighthunter987 (talk) 09:30, 21 March 2013 (GMT)

Graphical Bug?[edit]
I love the look of this new Stalhrim armour, however I couldn't help but notice that the Light Armour looks very big and bulky compared to the Heavy Armour which looks slim and compact. I'm not sure if this would count as a bug or not, but is this worth at least noting on the page? To me it feels like they was suppose to be the other way round. I am not sure if this applies to the male armour. — Kimi the Elf (talk | contribs) 08:39, 22 March 2013 (GMT)
- There is indeed very little difference between the two and the fur and leather added on the light version makes it look bulkier. It's notable but on the other hand, I don't know how we can fit it on the page... And speaking about it, the male on the image for heavy armor doesn't wear gauntlets, someone might want to make a new one. Elakyn (talk) 15:00, 25 March 2013 (GMT)
Super-high damage?[edit]
I crafted a Daedric Warhammer at Smithing 90, then made it Legendary (with Daedric perk). With all of my 2H buffs, it did 249 damage per swing. However, I crafted a Stalhrim Warhammer at Smithing 100, then made it Legendary also (with Ebony perk). This new artifact, with all of the same buffs, did 254 damage. Did the extra 10 smithing levels give it the boost, or is there some innate extra bonus that Stalhrim receives when being improved? The DWHammer had a 26pt Chaos damage enchantment on it, while the SWHammer had no enchantment, if it helps at all. — Unsigned comment by 98.236.82.169 (talk) at 23:39 on 30 March 2013 (GMT)
- I can't find it but I do know that armor and weapons gain 1 point per every 2 smithing skill points, without taking armor/weapon skill bonuses. If you tempered the Daedric Warhammer again, you'd probably reach something around 260. The difference isn't really significant though even between Steel and Daedric, I'd recommend focusing more on weapon weight when choosing because it affects stamina consumption when doing power attacks. Elakyn (talk) 12:03, 31 March 2013 (GMT)
Stalhrim Two Handed Weapons[edit]
I noticed that the table has these weapons doing one more damage than their ebony counterparts, which leaves right between Ebony and Daedric in terms of damage, but still weighing one less that Ebony. Was this not considered noteworthy for the article?--Playerseekingbugs (talk) 05:20, 15 April 2013 (GMT)
Non-Respawning[edit]
Stalhrim won't respawn at Gyldenhul Barrow and Kolbjorn since these locations don't respawn at all? The article says "Stalhrim will respawn" = a bit misleading? — Unsigned comment by 80.229.165.251 (talk) at 17:24 on 6 December 2013

- I'll reword it a bit, but it is meant as opposed to not respawning at all (like in bloodmoon) -- SarthesArai Talk 21:56, 6 December 2013 (GMT)
Chaos Damage[edit]
When a Stalhrim weapon is enchanted with chaos damage, does only the frost part of the chaos damage get an increase, or does the boost apply across all three damage types? Moses (talk) 22:48, 1 February 2014 (GMT)
