Halbarn Iron-Fur

Halbarn Iron-Fur is a Nord blacksmith initially found at Bujold's Retreat while battling for control over Thirsk Mead Hall. If the quest Retaking Thirsk is completed, he relocates to the mead hall along with the others. If you speak to him after completing the quest, he will ask you to do him a favor by collecting some items for him. If you do so, he becomes a potential marriage candidate.

Dialogue[edit]

His greetings at Bujold's Retreat:

"Sorry, friend, I can't make anything for you down here. I'll need to get back to my forge."
"I don't even want to think about what those... creatures are doing with my fires."
"I've tried hitting against a stump by my tent but... iron needs iron, if you want it shaped right."

His greetings at Thirsk:

"You have no idea how good it is to be back here. Thanks for your help, friend."
"The place still has some of the Riekling stink on it, but that'll wash out in time."
"I definitely missed the forge. I wonder if it missed me."
"Finally, I can get some sleep at night."
You were able to get the forge working again?
"Those things had filled it up with slop for their beasts. Elmus helped me wash it out, but the fire still smells terrible. It's not as good as it used to be, but I still am, at least."
Where do you get your raw materials?
"I have friends in Raven Rock, and a few among the Skaal. There's not much metal on the island itself, but we can find what we need, when we need it."
How do you feel about Bujold? (If Bujold was banished)
"In the end, she was one of the better leaders we've had, but if she didn't deserve it anymore, I guess that's that. It's too dangerous out here. We can't waste time worrying about having a liar in our midst. Lying is the first step to cowardice, after all. I hope she finds what she needs out there."

Quest-Related Dialogue[edit]

Halbarn Favor Quest[edit]

Are you getting back to work?
"Cleaning out the forge was the easy part. But those blasted rieklings made off with most of my materials. And I can't forge air. You tend to wander around, don't you? If you come across any stalhrim or ebony in your travels, bring them back to old Halbarn. Help each other out."

Returning with the materials:

I've brought the materials you wanted. (Give stalhrim and ebony.)
"Just in time, too. Kuvar was starting to give me some grief about his new armor. This will do the trick nicely. You come back if you ever want some fancier armor yourself, now."

Notes[edit]

  • While Halbarn is a blacksmith and is in appropriate merchant and citizen/resident factions, he has a combat class (CNAM) record of EncClassDremoraMelee "Dremora" [CLAS:00017008].
  • He is one of just three spouses that can actually live on Solstheim with you, as spouses and children cannot move into Severin Manor.

Bugs[edit]

  • After marrying Halbarn and adopting a childHF, the option to ask how the children are doing isn't available in player built homes.
  • If you talk to Halbarn while he's asleep, he may get up on the wall-facing side of his bed and clip through the wall. ?
  • Feeding on Halbarn as a vampire while he's asleep can cause you to clip through the wall adjacent to his bed. ?
