no boots in iventory (xbox 360)
Ok I've go a problem with the boots of the crusader I did the mission and got the boots but they don't show in my iventory. I've done the pilgrmage and have my infamy at 0 but there's no boots. I need help if posible...— Unsigned comment by 216.220.216.195 (talk) at 21:26 on 29 July 2009
- Is there any chance you had them assigned to a hotkey. You'll lose every quest item that is hotkeyed, since they don't appear in the chest for some reason. Now I don't know if the boots are a quest item. You can still find them assigned to a hotkey, so they are still there (as long as you don't overwrite that hotkey), but it's best to reload a save. I have the same problem, the countess seems to be immune to the spell. I tried it lots of times in different ways, nothing. I will assume that one of my mods is making her immune somehow, any ideas on how to console her into being hit? 173.55.37.219 06:16, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

- Had the same problem. No amount of charming or wearing nice clothing would work. He also seemed to somehow detect me even after I drank an invisibility potion. In the end I got tired so I cheated: pulled up the console, selected the guard, typed in "kill" and entered the room with no further impediments.

missing guest, help!!
I've waited 24 hours+ to get this quest to work. Three of them and the Countess are there. Actually, the Countess sits there 24/7. Javis or whatever his name is, the one married to one of the girls (according to this wiki page) doesn't show up. How can I get him to get over here so I can complete the quest?
Clarafication?
'Any quest items assigned to hotkeys at the time of casting Stark Reality will not reappear in Sanguine's chest. However (so long as you do not reassign the hotkey) simply pressing that hotkey will cause the item to reappear.'
If this is true, is it possible to free yourself of unwanted quest items (e.g. Colossal Black Soul Gem)?
Clean Getaway with No Bounty (Nocturnal's Cowl on the PS3)
I did this quest before reading this guide and chose to wear the cowl when casting the spell. When I got back to Sanguine, I had no bounty (though I am pretty certain that the bounty for the cowl went up). The specifics of this were:
- I talked my way past the guard with the help of a charm spell.
- Once in the room, I cast invisibility on myself, then donned the cowl, then cast the spell
- The spell left me naked, but I cast invisibility on myself and went into sneak mode (I had 100 sneak)
- I kept waiting in corners, casting invisibility over and over waiting for the spell to wear off and give me my stuff back. SURPRISE! Five minutes passed and no gear.
- I snuck out of town and down the road a ways, then fast traveled to Sanguine
- I spoke with Sanguine and got the rose plus some quest items (not including the cowl)
- I took everything from the chest. Checking my bounty, it was zero and never had been above zero. I am not sure about the infamy.
I have some saved games and can check particulars if anyone has questions. After a few days, I might change the main page to reflect the fact that on the PS3, it all works hunky-dory. Sage 17:35, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
Alternate invisibility method (moved from article)
The following section was added to the article by 122.168.212.38 on September 21, 2009
[Edit: This player is able to just simply press the tab key immediately after pressing the cast spell-button on the keyboard and drink the invisibility potion to remain as a respectful guest, and without running or even moving. For an even faster action, you can assign a hotkey to the potion, and press it just after casting the spell. No need to drop anything on the floor, then pick it up before the cast hits the Countess-- almost impossible-- and then run; none of these. Probably it is designed that way, so that, all the player has to do, is apply some common sense and first obtain an invisibility potion if he does not have that spell, stand right at the other end of the table opposite Countess, and do the action. My game version: 1.2.0416 + 3.2.0. No other mods.]
Hlidara Mothril immune?
During the dinner party, when I cast the stark reality spell, I noticed that Hlidara Mothril wasn't affected much of the time (or was only partially affected). My tactic was to cast the spell at Alessia from a distance, then quickly drink a Weak Potion of Invisibility before the spell hit, which worked just fine. I tried this, as well as just casting the spell and running/fighting the guards, numerous times, and had a number of interesting things (or rather, uninteresting things) happen to Hlidara. Sometimes, she doesn't react at all (no green magic aura around her, doesn't run, doesn't even twitch, and no clothes flying off); other times some of the effects affect her (she most often has no auro (presumably meaning no drain health), no clothes flying off, and just walks away); every now and then it affects her almost correctly, but her clothes never fly off. I tried doing removeallitems on her from the console, and it worked just fine. I've tried casting it on the ground, on other people, and on her; I can't find any rhyme or reason as to why it's behaving like this. The quest still works fine, its just weird. 174.21.154.108 02:09, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
- That's because the spell isn't supossed to work on her, only Alessia and the guests, that's why none of the effects of stark reality show up when you cast the spell--S'drassa 02:46, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
Alessia leaving
I was researching Alessia's schedule during Sanguine's quest, but apparently she never leaves! Is this a particular glitch or that statement is wrong?--S'drassa 21:20, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
-
- Hmm, like you, I decided to give the Countess a look during the quest, and she seems seriously bugged (as the ton of statements above confirms) and the "Finding the Countess"-part of the main page seems somewhat lacking and full of guesswork. Right now, it seems like the Countess can disappear without a trace once the quest is initiated - and the only known solution is using the wait-feature over and over until she shows up. Once she shows up, however, it seems like she have no schedule whatsoever - ignoring all her daily appointments and just wanders around the County Hall all day and night. At 6pm, however, she will attend the dinner party and sit down and eat. Unfortunately, she will never get up and just keep eating around the clock. Some CS info would be much appreciated.
-
- Something happens when you initiate the quest, that's obvious. But if the Countess "disappears" - and she often does - then it would be really useful (and interesting) to know where she is. I couldn't find her anywhere in the castle or in the chapel. What's really odd is the fact that Hlidara seems to disappear with her. Also, it seems like something "happens" again when you gain access to the dining area - and that is a bit more tricky to monitor in-game. So: if you make any observations that can help determine her behavior during this quest, please post them here - it would be great to solve a few of the mysteries and clean the quest page up a bit. --Krusty 13:41, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

- Nope; however, failing the quest still completes it, so you don't have to worry about the Hermaeus Mora quest. --GKTalk2me 00:29, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
Stark Reality Cantrip
Ran out of arrows in a plane of Oblivion and used Stark Reality to both, get the attention of distant Fire Atronachs, pulling them away from the line of sight of any nearby friends, and also to set off the Fire Traps/Land Mines. Opens up possibilities of using Stark Reality on other, particularly clothed NPCs, if you care, and also that low cost, single-damage ranged spells can be used on the Mines, although the fact that spells set them off was known already. Use it in the former situation at your own risk; I have only tested it on the Fire Atronachs, who have no clothes. Anarchangel 18:42, 4 January 2010 (UTC)
- Gave up on this line of enquiry, and I expect only the 1-damage component of the spell would work on NPCs, as the disrobing does not work on Hlidara (see above). Anarchangel 12:34, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
Countess and Guard 'not at home'
Methinks most of the anecdotes about the guard and Countess not being in the castle are actually the guard and Countess being inside the room. I did consider whether the Countess might take a trip at the end of the month rather than only the middle, but then tried firing an area of effect staff charge at the door, while pressed up against it in first person view. Not even sure why, just trying everything. Something about that action, probably the area of effect part, allowed me to see through the door momentarily, and I could clearly see the guard standing on the other side.
I waited, quite near the door, and the guard and Countess came through the door, the guard to deal with me as a loitering trespasser who would obviously never be invited to such an important function (this did not become a criminal matter, the guard merely expressed his distaste through dialogue, and as this got me to the next part of the quest, it was mostly a good thing). The countess was stuck in Welcome mode, and oblivious to the guard's concerns. Anarchangel 12:34, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
Unable to charm guard past 90
It's like they fixed it. I'm running the GOTY version off Steam, only mod is the quietfeet hack.
So I talk to the outside guard and bump his disposition to 83 (at which point it says: disposition maxed), then cast a 'charm 10 points for 10 seconds' spell. His disposition is then maxed at 90.
He just attacks me like everyone else in the room, even if I resist arrest and yield. Can anyone confirm this with a similar build? — Unsigned comment by 139.133.7.38 (talk)
- Max disposition if necessary, resist arrest, then charm him and yield. Thank you for pointing this out. Would some confirm that it was ever possible to get permanently over 90? Anarchangel 19:53, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
-
- I've managed to get (a guard's) disposition over 90 with simple Speechcraft (talk to them while your weapon is unsheathed), so that is possible. I've also used Charm before to achieve a disposition over 100. That I checked by console, and the fact the Dremora accepted yield (Dremora have an Aggression of 100). This would confirm both. --Timenn-<talk> 12:10, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
No sign of Countess
Okay, so her bodyguard is standing outside the Castle County Hall, but there's been no sign of her for days. Does this mean she's been killed?
Stuck In Active Quest Mode!
Hello! According to my character's journal, Sanguine is still an active quest rather than a completed one, even though it achieved Stage 100! So why didn't it shift over to the completed quests page?
Here is some data that may help provide the answer. I chose the option to go to jail and when my character was sent there, she was unable to touch or activate anything, like serving her time with the bedroll method, or escaping, et cetera. The jailors were friendly towards her and oblivious to her escaping effort too. I had to use "TCL" to escape though as she couldn't pick the lock. She couldn't get her items back from the Evidence Chest either. So I sent her back to her cell and then used, "MoveToQuestTarget" to advance the quest. She claimed her magical staff and talked to the cultists too.
But the Journal insists the quest is still active. How can I fix this glitch? Advance thanks for any good advice that work right. Leo Star Dragon 1 06:39, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
P.S.: I then sent her back to the castle in time to witness a fight in progress involving the Conjurer from the DLC with the magic tomes, taking place in the courtyard. Inside the dining hall, people were also excited but they weren't "scared" or "angry" with my character though. So what's going on? Why the problem?
- This bug is caused by the latest version of the UOP. wokaround is here: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion_talk:Sanguine/Archive_2#Quest_Still_Active — Unsigned comment by 71.84.123.86 (talk) at 10:27 on 12 March 2010
Missing Corpse!
I want to do the Sanguine quest, but I know the Countess has been killed. I know this because I passed her body on the road north of Bravil some weeks ago, but at the time had nothing to reanimate her with. Now I do, I've covered the stretch of road from Leyawiin to Lake Rumare numerous times, and she and her bodyguards have just disappeared, though you can still see their horses on the side of the road occasionally. Any ideas as to how I can find her or finish the quest? — Unsigned comment by 161.216.153.241 (talk) on 3 March 2010
- If the countess is dead, you can't do the quest. Sorry. Her body will eventually disappear, when the cell resets, which is why you can't find her. rpeh •T•C•E• 16:47, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
Frenzy?
Has anyone else had success casting a Frenzy spell before casting Stark Reality? I tried this method, and no bounty was applied to me. The guards attacked the guests until the spell wore off, and then everyone calmed down.
My custom Frenzy spell had a Magnitude of 100 (Level 25), an area of 30 Feet, and a duration of 15 seconds. I didn't want to add this method to the page in case it was a once-off or was mod-related.
If this does work then it's probably imperative to get the Stark Reality spell cast right on the heels of the Frenzy to avoid hitting the guards. I did have a backup plan in the form of a 100-point Charm spell.
Would a console player be willing to test this for me? Deadlykris 19:51, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
Confirmed on PS3 GOTY Edition; I used Frenzy (Magnitude 13, 10-foot area, 5 seconds) on one of the guests, then cast Start Reality on her while everyone was attacking her. Added bonus: she's essential, so she just goes unconscious, so no harm, no foul. Yopparai 07:51, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
Removing unwanted Quest items
From the article:
"Any quest items assigned to hotkeys at the time of casting Stark Reality will not reappear in Sanguine's chest. However (so long as you do not reassign the hotkey) simply pressing that hotkey will cause the item to reappear. This is "fixed" in the PS3 Game of the Year Edition. Attempting to remove unwanted Quest Items from your inventory using this method will not work. The items remain on your character even after casting Stark Reality."
What about on Xbox360? Would doing this quest get rid of things I can't get out of my inventory, like Ring of the Vipereye? (Can't really test it unless I start a new game all over again so I'm hoping someone might know).
- no i think that it stays in your inventory or it just dissapers from sight in your inventory--GUM!!! 23:54, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
Easy way to do it
Stand across where the Countess sits, on the other side of the table (behind the empty chair). Jump and cast "Stark Reality" towards her. All the guests will be affected since the spell travels diagonally through the air. As you fall down use your invisibility potion.
Tried it, it worked like a charm :) Hope this helps!

Cleanup Diary
Here, I will track my cleanup-related changes to the Sanguine page.
- Removed tip about "jumping over an NPC when he/she opens the door". Tested it several times, with and without the guard - and with 100% chameleon. It is simply impossible. --Krusty 15:08, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
- Removed the following role-playing note: If you dislike using the fast-travel feature, you probably want to stash some of your equipment somewhere in Leyawiin before playing the prank.
- Removed this note already found in main text (and it will probably have to go too: If you have a summon spell, cast Stark Reality on the summoned creature and the guards will attack your creature instead of trying to arrest you. They may also attack one of the party guests. This is an easy way to pass the quest.
- Removed un-nessecary note: If the Countess dies during the quest you will not be able to successfully finish this quest.
- Added UOP-tag to the note on top (Shrine of Sanguine-mistake) --Krusty 17:43, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
- Removed the following untrue statement from "preparing for the prank" section: The timing for when you arrive at the party does matter, as the Countess doesn't seem to enjoy her dinner parties too much; she will leave after just a couple of hours (see section on Finding the Countess for further details). Although the other four guests will stay there forever, you need the Countess to be there for your prank to be considered successful. It was tested by me and RobinHood70 and the investigation can be found here. --Krusty 15:37, 1 August 2010 (UTC)
Unusual Invisibility Potion Glitch
I decided to try to tackle this quest in a different way. I went inside the room and cast Stark Reality at the countess, then quickly opened up my menu and drank a 30 second invisibility potion before the spell hit. When I closed the menu, the spell hit the countess and took away all of my inventory... and suddenly my character was completely visible! However, none of the guards attempted to arrest me, and I walked out of the castle, fast-travelled to the Shrine of Sanguine and turned in the quest to obtain Sanguine's Rose. When I got my inventory back, however, and re-equipped my armor, all of a sudden my character was invisible again... and it never wore off. I tried waiting, fast traveling, and simply standing still, but my character remained permanently invisible. I ended up having to reload to a save before I cast the Stark Reality spell (thankfully I make multiple saves fairly frequently) and attempt to finish the quest another way.
I didn't want to add this to the main article in case it was a one-time thing, so I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else? I'm running a PS3 Game of the Year edition. It was very unusual and a bit upsetting, since I thought I had done perfectly. 98.218.16.16 04:53, 12 August 2010 (UTC) Stoic
Sanguine Shrine Game Freezing
On the Xbox 360, trying to complete the game 100% on one playthrough. It was going well until I attempted to do this quest, because every time I try to cast the spell on the guests, the spell hits them and the game freezes. I figure it has something to do with some items trying to be removed from my inventory that can't be removed, as I have plenty of items from quests and several that have glitched and can't be removed, namely, a Nirnroot that is "Equipped" and can't be dropped, eaten or used in a potion. I tried clearing out my cache but that hasn't helped either. Hopefully someone knows something about this and can help solve the issue. — Unsigned comment by 24.215.51.160 (talk) at 02:24 on 27 August 2010
- I've never heard of a Nirnroot becoming equipped, so it sounds to me like your saved game has become slightly corrupted. I hate to say it, but you may have to try going back to an earlier save (from the sounds of it, possibly much earlier) and see if you can redo it. – Robin Hood↝talk 23:25, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Deleted Notes and Bugs
These are the notes and bugs I deleted or changed:
NOTES:
- After Ahdarji's Heirloom is completed the Countess is no longer marked as essential. The longer you put off completing this quest after that, the more likely it is that she will die and you will not be able to obtain the Sanguine Rose (except by console command on the PC). You do still get credit for completing the quest, and you can still qualify for the Hermaeus Mora quest. Your items will be returned to you immediately upon leaving the Castle Hall zone or serving your prison term (no need to return to the "Shrine of Sanguine"). If you play on a console version of the game and want the Sanguine Rose consider doing this quest very soon after Ahdarji's Heirloom. Otherwise, there should be no long term impact on getting 100% completion if that is your goal. (changed)
Stark Reality's removal of gear has noteworthy effects on quest items in the character's possession that players should consider.
- If quest items are equipped, or the Skeleton Key is in inventory when Stark Reality is cast, there is a glitch where the character retains the items' bonuses, and cannot re-equip or drop them when they are returned to inventory. It is strongly recommended that the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal not be worn during this quest for this reason.
- Any quest items assigned to hotkeys at the time of casting Stark Reality will not reappear in Sanguine's chest. However (so long as you do not reassign the hotkey) simply pressing that hotkey will cause the item to reappear.
- This is "fixed" in the PS3 Game of the Year Edition. Attempting to remove unwanted Quest Items from your inventory using this method will not work. The items remain on your character even after casting Stark Reality.
- It has also been "fixed" in the Xbox 360 Game of the Year Edition. Regardless of whether or not they are hotkeyed, quest items appear to be hidden in the inventory, but not removed. They reappear in your inventory as soon as you leave Leyawiin and/or Five Rider Stables. On the other hand, the glitched Security bonus from having the Skeleton key in inventory when casting Stark Reality is removed when entering the Shrine of Sanguine cell. (changed)
BUGS:
- Although Stark Reality's description in your spell list says it has a radius of 300 feet, it is possible for all five required targets to be in the dining room when it is cast, and receive the failed quest message, "I failed to affect all the guests with the Stark Reality spell".
- If the Knights of the Nine expansion pack is installed, and you posess the crusader's relics, an exploit is available which can duplicate the relics. After using Stark Reality, the relics will be unequipped on you, and sent to the chest at the Shrine of Sanguine. However, if you return to the Priory of the Nine before collecting your equipement from the Shrine, and select "Place all relics" on the armour stand, they will appear on the stand, and can be taken as normal. When you return to the Shrine, a second copy will be in the chest. However, the original set of relics will no longer interact with the stand, so can not be recharged/ upgraded.
- If you visit the Countess in her dressing room while she is under the effect of the Stark Reality spell she may never re-dress. It is possible for her to spend the rest of the game (doing all of her usual rounds) wearing only her underwear. On the PC, you can do one of two things using the Console:
-
- Resurrect her using the commands:
prid 35334
resurrect 0
- Manually re-equip all of her items:
- From the Console, type
prid b123c
- Type
RemoveAllItems 35334
- Type
player.moveto 35334
- (This will move you to wherever the countess is. Careful, you may end up in forbidden territory. If you're not very stealthy, wait until a time when the Countess should be in a public area.)
- Go into Stealth Mode and "rob" the countess, only to note down her various clothing and jewelry. If you're not very stealthy, save the game before-hand and then re-load it afterwards if your attempt is noticed.
- Look up the IDs here for each item. As an example, she might have the following: an Ebony Emerald Ring (38025), a Green Brocade Doublet (229b0), a Green Silk Garment (229b1), and Green Velvet Shoes (229b2).
- Open the Console.
- Click on Alessia or type
prid 35334
- For each of the items you noted above, type in
EquipItem xxxxx
(each on a separate line). Using the above example, it would be:EquipItem 38025
EquipItem 229b0
EquipItem 229b1
EquipItem 229b2
- Close the Console.
- From the Console, type
- Resurrect her using the commands:
I leave them here so they can be added back if needed. --Wizy (Talk/Contribs) 19:24, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
- Forgot to mention, In my opinion the last note "For the Stark Reality spell to be considered a success..." still needs to be rewritten and the knights of the nine bug too (or not added at all). --Wizy (Talk/Contribs) 19:36, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

- Here's some more info that is definitely false - Ihave tested this overand over when I wrote the page, so I removed it from the Notes section: The problem is that the Countess doesn't like to stick around. She will always leave the dinner party relatively early in the evening, about 8 pm --Krusty 21:38, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- For the record; I re-added the bug about her being naked if you follow her up to her dressing room. That one is correct and is adressed by the UOP. --Krusty 21:57, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Bit of a problem
So today, I did the sanguine daedric quest, in which you have to cast a spell on several people. It is considered assault, and therefore I got a bounty. So while I booked my ass out of leyawiin, I evaded every gaurd. Eventually, when I was close to the shrine of sheogorath, I tried to fast travel, but it said I could not because I was being persued by gaurds. This went on for the next hour-ish, while I booked my stupid naked butt all the way to the imperial city waterfront, to try and pay off my fines to armand christophe. I then noticed I had no gold, so I decided to just run halfway across the game world to the sanguine shrine, and finished the quest, also regaining all of my items. Still unable to fast travel, I decided, now that I have gold, I'll go pay armand to get rid of my fine. So, again, I ran as if my life dpended on it (which it did) ALL THE WAY to the waterfront. I finnaly paid off my fines, but it still says guards are following me. I have a few stolen items in my inventory, so I do not want to just find a gaurd, punch him, and pay the fine, and my only house is in anvil, so I don't feel like running all the way there to drop off some stolen goods. What should I do? 24.226.55.17 04:58, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
- I'm tempted to say tl;dr. But anyway, the guards are still following you. It's like when you put on the Grey Cowl, and then when you take it off, you still get in a conversation with any guards following you. You need to stop for a while and let one of them catch up with you. I have to really do it tommorov, or I can when I wish? Sorry for my English. (Sexydjole 15:11, 22 April 2011 (UTC))
- Please, read the article before asking for help. It clearly states that there is 'no rush to get to Leyawiin; the dinner party will only get underway whenever you make it there, even if it takes you several weeks'. Legoless 15:15, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
Not getting in
I can't get in the dinner room. The guard says there is a dinner party and that he doesn't want anyone to disturb it. After that he breaks of the conversation. Talking to him again has no effect. I wear jewelry and used charm spells on him. Nothing helps and I can't get in. What should I do. — Unsigned comment by 84.80.150.44 (talk) at 14:37 on 29 April 2011

Killed the guard
I killed the guard outside the room, and the door says "you cannot open his door". What do I do??? — Unsigned comment by MasterOfOblivion164 (talk • contribs) at 20:29 on 4 June 2011
