Avoiding jailtime in patched pc version[edit]

Contrary to the article it is possible to avoid jailtime in the patched pc version (invisibility doesn't work anymore) by simply dropping a lockpick before casting the spell and picking it up afterwards. Tested it myself. Probably works with money, too, but I'm too lazy to test it. I changed the article to include the lockpick instead of "impossible to avoid jailtime", since it is not true. Weird, yet not really bad, bug[edit]

I noticed an odd bug upon completing this quest. Two of the items I had on me when that were removed were the Skeleton Key and the Scales of Pitiless Justice. When returning to the shrine, I hit the "Take All" button at the chest. I got both items back, but not their respective enchantments. I can receive the enchantments again by dropping and picking up the items, of course, but I essentially have an unbreakable lockpick, but no fortification from it. Again, this isn't necessarily a bad thing.... Schiffy (talk) 02:16, 16 September 2012 (GMT)

Different guard response not documented in main article[edit]

I tried the Sanguine quest after finishing the main quest with a fame total of 130 and got a different treatment from the watch and bodyguards due to high (100) disposition. Not only did the door guard let me in with the comment about how I was dressed well (I was in full armor) but after casting the Stark Reality spell, one of the bodyguards let me off the hook with the "since we are friends" dialogue. Stark Reality Spell Missing[edit]

I attempted to do this quest by using Gray Cowl of Nocturnal. The first few times I figured I did something wrong because the Cowl went missing after I used Stark Reality. I realized this was supposed to happen. But I already reloaded by previous save. Now my Stark Reality spell is not listed although the quest is still active. I did not use Stark Reality or put on the Cowl before I saved. — Unsigned comment by 71.174.227.69 (talk) at 03:15 on 19 January 2013

Stark Reality spell is NOT fixed in the Unofficial Oblivion Patch[edit]

You cannot remove the cowl before the spell hits, and it is forcily removed as soon as the spell hits, therefore you cannot remove it after the spell hits as in the stated solution for not getting bounty/jail time. — Unsigned comment by 24.55.213.129 (talk) at 04:03 on 27 March 2013

No bounty, remained outside room[edit]

I don't know if this works for anyone else, but it did for me (playing PS3 version): First, get the guard's disposition over 70. Next, talk to him about the dinner party, and he should move aside. Enter sneak mode. Open the door, then move up the opposite stairs so you're a good distance from the guard. Cast Stark Reality on him. Wait until the throne room clears, then sneak towards the hall so you have a clear line of sight into the dinner room. Cast the spell toward the closest guest while OUTSIDE the room. Exit sneak mode and immediately retreat to the dark corner against the stairs. Enter sneak mode again. DON'T MOVE until people have stopped running and the throne room is clear again, even if people spot you. Sneak out of the castle, trying to avoid anyone. If the eye lights up, just move away from the person(s) and wait until they pass. Once outside, move away from the castle until the eye is dark again. Fast travel to the shrine, talk to Sanguine to finish the quest, then retrieve your stuff. If all goes well, you should not have gotten a bounty. — Unsigned comment by 108.44.21.241 (talk) at 04:19 on 11 May 2014 (GMT)

Sanguine Bug (possibly) (moved from Oblivion talk:Crime)[edit]

I was sent to jail after casting Stark Reality for the Shrine of Sanguine quest, I served the time, and when I got out of jail I did not get my items back (except quest items). I went to check the evidence and none of my itmes were there. Of course it autosaved after I entered the building, and I, being an enormous idiot, did not save all day so I lost at least seven hours of questing.— Unsigned comment by 65.131.49.69 (talk) at 22:30 on 20 February 2015‎

Did you complete the objective? If your journal updated properly, then your gear should be in the chest in Sanguine's Shrine. Zul do onikaanLaan tinvaak 14:43, 22 February 2015 (GMT)

Question about Quest in re: KOT9[edit]

Does this quest interfere with progress in the Knights DLC? Meaning infamy points and a requirement to revisit every shrine in "creation".... I'm fairly far along in the Knights quest, retrieving the armor and weapons, I would hate to see it stalled. Anyone knowledgeable on this quest in:re the Knights, I welcome your response. Thank you ~~ MGSBoca. 14:51, 23 November 2017

Any quest or other way of gaining infamy points will intervere with the KotN questline, requiring you to remove them again. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 19:01, 23 November 2017 (UTC)

Invisibility for bounty avoidance[edit]

The article claims using invisibility prior to hitting the target w/ the given spell should allow for avoiding bounty. Unless potion-based spells work differently, this isn't true for me. That is, I cast invisibility on myself, then cast 'Stark reality' on countess and I become visible, guards get to me pronto and I'm getting the usual arrest dialogue. Also note, I was in sneak and undetected when casting invisibility and when casting 'Stark reality', literally hidden behind a corner. Seems somehow when invisibility disappears it also has an added effect of guiding the guards to me.

I also don't get how what the article here says and the 'Invisibility' (spell)'s own article say can be both true. Ie. the Invisibility page states, just as I experience, that as soon as you cast a spell when invisible, your invisibility is gone.

I also tried casting invisibility only after 'Stark reality', but that only made matters worse (still arrested, just sooner).

Am I doing sth wrong? Piotr chylarecki (talk) 05:20, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

Potion-based Invisibility works differently because you drink the potion after casting Stark Reality but before the spell hits its target. —Legoless (talk) 09:26, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

Possible bug not listed elsewhere[edit]

I went into the castle and there was no guard at the door to the dining room. The dining room door was locked, compass marker showed target was on the other side, could hear conversation, this was near 7pm. I went away and did another quest and came back approx 1am and now there was a guard who would only tell me the area was off limits due to an upcoming dinner. Went away and came back approx 6.30pm and the guard was gone again same as before. I had saved just before entering the castle this time, so I reloaded from there and this time the guard was there and the dialogue followed as per the walkthrough. I couldn't find anywhere else where this was listed as a bug, so I'm unsure if this is a known glitch, or if it even belongs here on the talk page. 203.30.15.76 05:10, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
