No map marker[edit]
anyone else not get an actual map marker for this quest? — Unsigned comment by Texaspete (talk • contribs) at 00:06 on 30 November 2011
- I'm having the same issue. Got the quest but the quest marker just points to the ghost. I reloaded from a previous save and got the quest again and now it is pointing to the right place. izzysawicki February 25 2012

- Mine (PC) was hopelessly broken. I reloaded from previous saves and got the quest again but the marker still points to the ghost and not to the location of the sword. --174.6.51.17 07:34, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

- It is unclear whether the lack of a map marker, on this particular quest anyhow, is a feature, or a bug. Trying to 'fix' the map marker by reloading or treating it as a bug that can be fixed through various means of your own making, wont work. — Unsigned comment by 24.68.19.13 (talk) at 21:26 on 24 August 2020 (UTC)

- Y'all may be having the same problem that I had here, which is a lack of attention to detail. It's in the walkthrough, but I managed to miss it anyway; after you speak to the ghost, you must then speak to Eydis again about the ghost (she has a new converstion item), who will randomly assign a quest location. The ghost does not give you the location. If you fail to speak to Eydis, the quest marker will continue to point to the ghost.107.134.154.186 19:41, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

Glitch (PS3)[edit]
On finishing this quest, my one-handed skill dropped to 15 with a disease status (red).
I've seen other similar situations when you search on google. It may warrant adding to the article. ---FromHereOn 06:51, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
- There have been multiple reports of this in one or even two levels of skills (archery for instance seems to be 45 and 95, at least for me.) There is some disagreement as to whether the skill is actually affected. So far (as I know anyway) nobody with a PC and the skill-set to actually delve into the stats has actually taken the time to do so. Eventually someone will get around to it I'm sure. If you go into your skill menu then into the affected Skill Tree the correct value is shown. Advice: Do whatever you need to do to raise the skill by one level (skill book, trainer, etc) and it will clear. Philbert 02:20, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

- This glitch also occurred on my PC. Dropped me from 89 as shown in the skill tree to a red 25. Used getAV and got the following results: Current Value:25.00 Computed Base:89.00 Reference Base Value:25.00(auto-calculated) Modifiers:(they were all 0.00) Level-up Value:89.00 I can't really say whether my one-handed skill was actually affected either because I was working at leveling my archery skill during this period. But, I was still dropping Falmer with one or two sword strikes, so I'd guess there was no actual skill impact.
- Philbert's advice is correct. I went to the master trainer, bought one level and the value on the skill menu changed from 25(red) to 90(white). Used getAV again: Current Value, Computed Base and Level-up Value were all now 90.00. Modifiers still 0.00. The Reference Base Value was still 25.00(auto-calculated), so I'm going to have to check that out.
- My opinion is that it is a harmless, self-clearing bug. More of a distraction than anything else, since you may never even notice it occurred if you level up the skill again before you look at your skill menu. I suppose it could do with a minor mention on the main page, though.Lazar 09:00, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
It is possible to obtain Hjalti's Sword without initiating the quest.[edit]
While the quest marker marking Hjalti's Sword does not appear until the quest is initiated, it is possible to obtain the sword prior to getting the quest. Torinir 20:14, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
- Getting the sword early can be a good thing. I found it pre-quest and was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked against dreadlords who hit me with the Disarm Shout. Being a quest item, I couldn't drop it. I haven't decided yet whether it's a glitch or a gimme. Lazar 05:17, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

- The sword might be spawned when you rent the room. I did this, but never slept there, then came across the sword during a related Red Eagle quest. (Which is what lead me here, because I have NFI who it belongs to.) — Unsigned comment by 124.148.213.40 (talk) at 17:32 on 4 September 2012
Shakespeare reference?[edit]
I haven't done the quest yet, but judging from the objective "Put an ancient ghost to rest" it seems to be a reference to the ghost of Old Hamlet, who also wants to be put to rest. Faceshifter 20:46, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
- it might be, but there are many ghost stories out there that circles around "coming to rest/peace". --Middleofsweden 20:50, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
Major bug[edit]
This quest doesn't even trigger for me. I pay the fee, sleep in the bed, wake up and nothing happens. There is no scream or ghost and all the NPCs act as if I have never even touched the bed. I seem to be the only person in the world with this bug as I haven't found any note that it might exist. — Unsigned comment by 89.176.186.191 (talk) at 02:39 on 23 February 2013
- you are not the only one. even reloading or trying to force the quest to start through console does not work2.7.43.106 18:55, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
Another major bug[edit]
I entered the cave to retrieve the sword. After I entered the cave, my map location showed that I was far off from where I entered the cave initially. Upon opening the door inside the cave, (The supposed location of the sword) the loading screen appeared and my Xbox completely froze.(Leaving this here in case others have encountered this issue.) — Unsigned comment by 174.54.82.88 (talk) at 08:12 on 9 July 2013
Leontius Salvius[edit]
Will Leontius Salvius replace Eydis's position in this quest if she dies? —Legoless (talk) 15:00, 9 July 2013 (GMT)
