Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
You can only obtain this quest if you didn't complete the Herne's Soul (Mages Guild) quest by handing over the gem to Absolon
Private Investigation[edit]
After the Guild's precious artifact is stolen, Gindaman is anxious to find out who is behind the theft. He asks you to head to the local Thieves Guild haunt and see what you can discover. He teaches you the "Charming Touch" spell, to assist with obtaining the information. Head to the Howling Noose and ask Silniel the Maven for information on the unique soul gem. If her disposition towards you is 90 or above, or if you are a Captain or higher rank in the Thieves Guild, she will tell you that it was the eccentric Telvanni enchantress Mistress Eldale who ordered the theft. Return to Gindaman with the news. He explains that it was Eldale who provided the gem in the first place and that she is probably just protecting her secret. As far as he is concerned, that's the end of the matter. He rewards you with 50 gold and one point of Mages Guild faction reputation.
Retrieving the Gem[edit]
Just because Gindaman thinks it's too dangerous to retrieve the gem doesn't mean it can't be done. Take the Guild Guide to Bal Oyra and then board a River Strider to Port Telvannis before catching another to Gah Sadrith. Mistress Eldale lives in her high tower protected by a Mud Golem and picking her pocket to find the gem is difficult, but not impossible. Return to Firewatch, for example by using Divine Intervention to reach Helnim then taking a boat. Go and talk to Gindaman once more.
Back on Track[edit]
Gindaman is astonished that you have managed to find the soul gem and asks you to take it to the expert on such matters, Absolon, who can be found in the Lecture Hall of Firewatch Library. Once you've handed over the gem, return to Gindaman.
Bugs[edit]
- Quest stage 50 is never set, which means Gindaman will keep asking you if you have delivered the gem to Absolon. Luckily, this doesn't stop you getting more quests from him, and it isn't necessary to access this quest in any case. ?
