String Encoding[edit]
I can say for sure that the string encoding in the english string files isn't UTF-8. It's either ISO-8559-1 or Windows-1252. I'm assuming Windows-1252 for now, given that it's the encoding Bethesda has used in the past, and given that Windows-1252 is the safer assumption. However, in a scan of the string files, I wasn't able to find any telltale characters in the 80-9F range to prove Windows-1252 instead of ISO-8559-1. --NepheleTalk 23:13, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Just in case anyone wants to help me figure out the encoding stuff for real, I'm documenting my progress in the StrEdit thread (starting with the previous thread) and updating this page with my findings. Reverted changes[edit]
I'm happy to accept the reason that the changes were reverted. Third party tools like xEdit and tesvTranslator use the information I provided. It's unfortunate that people have to go to great lengths to find the information and sift through Delphi source code rather than having it in one easy to find location in an easily understandable format.

- In that case, feel free to re-revert it, but maybe put the unofficial languages in a different table or section, or something along those lines. These pages are for developers, after all, but at the same time, we need to keep it very clear what's in official use and what's not. – Robin Hood (talk) 10:34, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
