PC Format[edit]

This is definitely not the same format as the PC saves one. Wonder why and still savegames are exchangeable between xbox and pc.--83.135.117.90 16:42, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Huh? Taking a quick look, the limited information on the page seems correct? —Rick 17:00, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

bstring[edit]

The length value of a bstring seems to have a size of 2 bytes not 1 as that 1+?? implies.--83.135.68.179 14:23, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

You're right. Fixed. —Rick 18:44, 25 November 2011 (UTC)

Change Form type = 3?[edit]

Nevermind, I forgot to bit shift.--72.229.1.121 03:09, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Header version #[edit]

It appears that the Dawnguard expansion has updated the header version to 9.

FileLocationTable.globalDataTable2Count[edit]

The page says it's 15, but I only get 14. I get 9 and 5 for the other two globalDataTable counts. Did this change at some point or am I just doing something wrong? 24.138.172.9 06:44, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

Transfering Saves with Dawnguard Plug-in[edit]

So I read about the save transferring from XBox to PC and back, but I was wondering if since I have Dawnguard installed on my Xbox but not on my PC, if I moved the XBox save on to my PC, then would my save be all messed up because of the Dawnguard items that technically don't exist without the DLC being downloaded on the PC? All I want to do is cheat a little bit on the XBox by using the console on the PC then putting the save back on the XBox but I want to know whether it will break the my --ElementalDud 07:54, 12 August 2012 (UTC)save or not.

Not sure if it would break it, but you'd lose all items and progress related to Dawnguard since it wouldn't be loaded in the game. I suppose it's not an issue now since Dawnguard has been released on PC, but I thought I'd answer anyways. Trira (talk) 22:28, 3 September 2012 (EDT)

Editing[edit]

Is there any program that can be used to edit an .ess file extension? Most basic Windows programs don't recognize most of the characters. (I know how risky this sounds, but I'm curious) Schiffy (talk) 14:43, 21 November 2012 (GMT)

You can try a hex editor. I use HxD, personally. Trira (talk) 06:49, 26 November 2012 (GMT)

Figuring out game version from form version[edit]

I have a save file with "Form version: 57". Which game version / patch does this correspond to?

I'm trying to recreate a specific environment so I can load a save file. It crashes with the latest version. -87.115.191.61 02:37, 12 January 2013 (GMT)

A better thing to do would be to check when the save file was last edited and use whichever version of Skyrim.exe that was out at that time, considering the form version doesn't always update with the game version. However, I believe form version 64 was introduced in Skyrim.exe version 1.5 or 1.6, so anything before that would be 57. Trira (talk) 04:47, 12 January 2013 (GMT)

How can I do the reversal[edit]

When I converted the ess file to dat, it didn't work.
