Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

The Winking Skeever[edit]

Note to Mercenary

To begin the quest travel to The Winking Skeever in Solitude. There you will find a Note to Mercenary on the bar, read it and it mentions a group of bandits that have been frequently taking supplies into a cover located on a small island northeast of Solitude.

Liar's Descent[edit]

Entrance to Liar's Descent
Bandit shack area

Near the Dainty Sload, you will find a cover that leads to Liar's Descent. Enter and you will be on wooden scaffolding, continue forward and there will be an empty chest alongside a spell tome of Candlelight. Further on there is a chest that contains some ore.

Eventually you will reach a pull chain that opens the hidden cave door next to it. This will lead to a set of two pathways, the one on the right will lead to a ruby geode, emerald geode and a Sack of Stolen Goods that contains 5 Argonian Ales, a Flawless Diamond, gold, and 6 Mead with Juniper Berry.

The left pathway will continue to an opening where bandit houses can be found. Go inside the largest one and you will find the dead body of Kerah Narcissa with Note to Kerah lying next to her. There are gold and silver ingots and ores in the back area with the note To Roberys on the table.

The smaller shack has the body of Lukas, search his body for the note To Lukas.

After looting the area, continue onwards and you will enter Glacial Cave.

Glacial Cave[edit]

Body of Roberys
Ayduil's Talon

As you enter you will encounter the dead body of Roberys, with an elven sword and three empty Resist Cold potions. Search his body to find a Note to Roberys and a philter of resist cold.

Continue on and you will see a dragon's skull with the unique Dragonbone sword Ayduil's Talon resting on it. There is a patrolling wispmother that will have to be dealt with, you can then climb up the ladder.

Winterfrost[edit]

Shovel the snow
Rowboat

As you exit the Glacial Cave, you will see a large metal gate, go through it and you will be in the courtyard of Winterfrost. This will complete the quest officially.

To enter the house, you must shovel the snow by interacting with the shovel. You will then be able to enter. If you wish to return to Solitude, you can construct a rowboat at the docks.

Quest Stages[edit]

Through Fire And Ice (00IceWind_WinterfrostQuest)
Stage Finishes Quest Journal Entry
0 I have discovered a letter in the Winking Skeever, intended for a Mercenary. It mentions a group of bandits that have been frequently taking supplies into an underground location. I should visit the island and investigate.
10 Atop the island mentioned in the Mercenaries note lies an entryway that leads underground. I should open the cover and search for the bandits inside.
20 After descending through a sweltering cavern, I found and pulled a chain at the end of the walkway, revealing a secret passage. Upon delving deeper into the cavern, I was met by a group of slaughtered bandits, scattered around a makeshift campsite. I should continue exploring the remaining passage to the West of the bandit campsite.
30 Finishes quest☑ Upon climbing out of the Glacial Cavern, I opened the gates to what appears to be an abandoned dwelling. I shall head inside and search for its owner.
Notes
  • Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
  • If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
  • On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage 00IceWind_WinterfrostQuest stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest 00IceWind_WinterfrostQuest.
