Cedran is the Breton hostler at Markarth Stables. He can sell you a black and white horse for 1000 septims.
He wears farmer's clothes, boots, and a hat. He carries an iron dagger and a key to Markarth Stables.
He wakes up in the stables at 8am, and gets to work at the stables right away. After working the stables for twelve hours straight, he'll head back inside, at 8pm. He'll then relax inside for four hours, before going to bed at midnight.
Related Quests[edit]
- This NPC is one of many potential quest givers or quest targets for one or more of the Radiant quests.
Dialogue[edit]
When you greet him, he can say:
- "You need a reliable horse in the Reach. That's what we have."
- "You treat a horse well, it'll take you to Oblivion and back."
If his assistant, Banning, is dead, he'll say:
- "Poor Banning. Twice as much work here in the stables without him."
If spoken to directly he can be asked questions about the area:
- Who's in charge of Markarth?
- "That would be Jarl Igmund. Young for a ruler of a Hold, especially the Reach. Wasn't surprising he stayed loyal to the Empire. His father helped capture Ulfric Stormcloak after the Markarth incident." (Imperials control Markarth)
- "Since the Stormcloaks took over, Jarl Thongvor is in charge. It'll be lean times for the Reach with a Silver-Blood ruling it, that's for certain." (Stormcloaks control Markarth)
- What's the Markarth Incident?
- "It's the whole reason Ulfric revolted against the Empire. Well, the first reason anyway. Forsworn had taken over Markarth, and Ulfric and his men drove them out. Empire promised they'd be free to worship Talos afterwards. Pity no one told the Elves. Whole group of those Thalmor came and they demanded Ulfric's arrest."
- Who are the Forsworn?
- "Before the Nords came, we worshipped the old gods, had our own kingdom. Times have been good and bad since then, but some folks couldn't handle not ruling their own land. Those are the Forsworn. The Forsworn follow the old ways, but some of those were best forgotten. Blood sacrifices, communing with Daedra. It's the road to ruin."
When exiting conversation, he can say:
- "May the crags fail to trip your feet."
- "Safe travels to you."
Conversations[edit]
He can sometimes be seen conversing with Banning:
- Cedran: "Think we should buy more horses next season?"
- Banning: "I'd rather spend the gold on a new litter of pups, but the horses bring in more gold."
- Banning: "How are the new breeds getting along with my dogs?"
- Cedran: "Haven't attacked each other yet. Good a sign as any."
Unused Dialogue[edit]
Cedran was at one point meant to have a minor role in The Forsworn Conspiracy. Although unknown what would be the starting point, you could come and ask him about a possible Forsworn escape plan. This dialogue can only be found in the game's DialogueViews files, and not the Creation Kit.
- I need to know if Madanach ever came to you about getting horses.
- "Madanach? Haven't heard that name is a long while. Yeah, he asked, but I told that old Forsworn he could walk out of the city if he ever managed to break out of that prison. Don't like the Nords any more than he does, but I don't help criminals. Plain and simple."
Notes[edit]
- Cedran was at one point meant to be the local bard of the Silver-Blood Inn. His class is a remnant of this, and he is still internally marked as an employee of both Kleppr and Frabbi. It seems that he was meant to have a particular strong bond with their daughter, Hroki, as they have relationship rank of "Ally" and he is marked as her master with her being his assistant.
- Cedran is also marked as a friend of Eltrys, but neither man ever acknowledges each other's existence in the final game. It's possible that this relation is tied to the unused portion of The Forsworn Conspiracy, as seen above.
