Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
Speak to Swims for this next challenge:
- I'm ready for the next fishing challenge.
- "It's all in this note."
- I see, these fish come out in the rain. And... you lost your lucky fishing hat?
- "It speaks the truth."
-
- Alright. I'll be back soon with the fish. And the hat.
- "My thanks to you."
-
- I'll get started. I just wish I didn't have to get soaked.
- "My thanks to you."
He then hands you a list of rainy weather fish, which tells you that you need to catch a:
You can also optionally pickup a copy of Fishing Mastery, v2 from the shelf in the backroom. Travel to Geirmund's Hall, where you can fish up Swims' lucky fishing hat, which when worn will cause thunderstorms while fishing at temperate lakes and streams, making this quest much easier.
Once you have caught the required fish, return to Swims where you can either return his hat to him or lie that you didn't find it:
-
- Here are the fish you were after. I also found your lucky fishing hat.
- "You are like my brood to me. Here. A token."
-
- Here's the fish for the challenge. I couldn't find your lucky fishing hat. (Lie)
- "It can't be helped. Thank you. Here this is for you."
Either option leads to you getting an Argonian fishing rod and the ability to create more, if you give Swims his hat back, he will also reward you with 400 gold:
- An Argonian fishing rod? Thank you. I will be sure to put it to good use.
- "My thanks to you."
Bugs[edit]
- The journal states that you can find pygmy sunfish in streams, when in reality they are found in lakes when it is raining.
- The Official Skyrim Special Edition Patch, version 1.6.1130.0, fixes this bug.
- The objective to "Fish up Swims-In-Deep-Water's lucky fishing hat" and a quest marker to the respective fishing spot appear right after the quest is given, but the Lucky Fishing Hat can only be fished after the List of Rainy Weather Fish is read.
Quest Stages[edit]

---|---|---|
Stage | Finishes Quest | Journal Entry |
10 | Swims-In-Deep-Water has given me another fishing challenge. I should read the list he gave me to see what I will need to catch.
Objective 100: Read the list of rainy weather fish
Objective 10: Fish up Swims-In-Deep-Water's lucky fishing hat

|
20 | The fish that Swims-In-Deep-Water would like me to catch are a bit more elusive than last time. However, they come to the surface more frequently while it is raining. I should refer to the second volume of Fishing Mastery to learn more. He also asked me to help fish up his lucky fishing hat, lost at a fishing spot west of Sarethi Farm. He claims that it rains wherever he wears the hat when fishing. That sounds far-fetched, but I suppose I could use all the luck I can get.
Objective 0: Obtain a catfish
Objective 1: Obtain a pearlfish
Objective 2: Obtain a pygmy sunfish
Objective 3: Obtain a spadefish
Objective 75: (Optional) Read Fishing Mastery, v2

21 | I have read the second volume of Fishing Mastery. All of the fish I need to catch are most easily caught when it's raining in the warmer parts of Skyrim. Catfish and spadefish can only be caught in lakes, while pygmy sunfish are found in streams. Pearlfish can be caught in both lakes and streams. He also asked me to help fish up his lucky fishing hat, lost at a fishing spot west of Sarethi Farm. He claims that it rains wherever he wears the hat when fishing. That sounds far-fetched, but I suppose I could use all the luck I can get.
Objective 50: Return to Swims-In-Deep-Water
|
|
200 | I've given Swims-In-Deep-Water all of the fish he requested as proof of completing his fishing challenge, as well as his lucky fishing hat. He rewarded me with an Argonian fishing rod, which will be useful when trying to catch large fish. He also handed me a sum of gold. | |
210 | I've given Swims-In-Deep-Water all of the fish he requested as proof of completing his fishing challenge. I kept his lucky fishing hat to myself after telling him I couldn't find it. He rewarded me with an Argonian fishing rod, which will be useful when trying to catch large fish. |
- The following empty quest stages were omitted from the table: 0, 30, 300.
- Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g.,
<Alias=LocationHold>
) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game. - Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
- On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering
setstage ccBGSSSE001_Fish_MQ2 stage
