Margus Derius is an Imperial black marketer who serves as the antagonist of the Murkmire prologue quests. Initially introduced as a competitor of Cyrodilic Collections that Concordia Mercius hires you to investigate, what Margus Derius has in store has ramifications for the organization and potentially the whole of Murkmire.

By the time you and Jee-Lar arrive on Norg-Tzel, he has retreated inside the xanmeer to perform a ritual that will unleash the power of the cursed skull of Beela-Kaar and destroy Murkmire. However it doesn't go according to plan and he is killed midway through, exploding into bloody chunks.

As you move through the Norg Tzel Xanmeer Margus Derius can be heard conducting the ritual:

Margus Derius: "Beela-Kaar, hear my words!"

Margus Derius: "Give me your power!"

Margus Derius: "Hear my words and reveal your hiding place!"

Once you enter the ritual chamber, Margus will be concentrating on the ritual.

Jee-Lar: "Disengage the cylinders! That should stop the ritual!"

Margus Derius: "Stay back!"

Margus Derius: "I need to maintain my concentration!"

With these fateful final words, his concentration is disrupted and the power overloads him, making him explode into bloody chunks.

Notes

• While he appears hostile and has an elite enemy rank, he doesn't fight you as he is busy with the ritual and is killed quickly by the ritual going wrong regardless.
• His journal can be found in The Sunless Hollow where he explains why he is so determined to destroy the Murkmire.
