Quest-Related Events[edit]
By Invitation Only[edit]
Prior to gaining access to Shad Astula, you can hear the following conversation at the docks:
- Lena Dalvel: "I've been waiting for this my entire life."
- Tedras Relvi: "Me, too, Lena. I want to learn how to unleash my inner powers."
- Hadmar the Thin-Boned: "Ah, but before we unleash we must learn to control."
- Tedras Relvi: "Of course, Hadmar. Whatever you say, Hadmar."
When spoken to in Mournhold, she responds:
- "I can't wait to get to the Academy! I want to become an officer and help lead the Pact."
After arriving at Shad Astula, the following exchange can be overheard:
- Tedras Relvi: "I hate boats. All the rocking and back and forth and back and … by the Three! I think I'm going to be sick again!"
- Lena Dalvel: "I told you you shouldn't have eaten right before we … oh my, that's just gross!"
- Hadmar the Thin-Boned: "Our friend looks more blue than usual."
- Tedras Relvi: "I hate you both so much right now."
Speaking to Lena after this conversation:
- "Well, we were on our way to get registered and start these classes, but well, you can see a certain someone here doesn't handle the sea very well."
School Daze[edit]
During this quest, you will be sent to help Hadmar, Lena and Tedras with their entrance exams. You will find Lena in front of the Instruction Halls, where many shadow clucks waddle around. Speak with her and find out what she needs.
- "Find the amulet, she said. Use the wand, she said.
What if it sets things on fire? I could burn the whole Academy to the ground." - Something I can help with?
- "Oh! You know I'd never burn anything, right? Just a figure of speech.
I can't fail my initiation test. I couldn't face being sent home." - Let me help. What do you need to do?
- "An instructor said one of these shadow clucks has a magic amulet. Ate it, probably.
I'm supposed to use this wand to focus my magic on the clucks and find the amulet." - What does the wand do?
- "Actually, I'm afraid to find out.
You don't seem at all timid. Would you do it? Please find the amulet. I can't fail this test!"
Speaking to her again:
- "I suppose you take this wand and, you know, focus. Your magic. On the clucks.
Frankly, something doesn't feel right about this."
Giving the amulet to her:
- "All those feathers flying! Mother Morrowind, I can't stop laughing."
- Here's the amulet. About the shadow clucks ....
- "Don't worry about it. It was hilarious!
I'll take the amulet to the instructor right away. I owe you one."
Speaking to her again:
- "I really owe you.
Come find me when you get a chance. Maybe we can study together or something."
Vision Quest[edit]
After getting knocked out in the Underhalls, you wake up in a cell with Lena and Tedras.
- Lena Dalvel: "Oh good, you're finally awake!"
Speak with Lena, who will reveal that the Maulborn are kidnapping students to enlist in their ranks:
- "You were unconscious for hours. At least it seemed like hours.
How do you feel? I was worried about you." - What happened?
- "Shad Astula's been overrun. The last of the Maulborn, from the looks of it—they must need more soldiers.
And they're getting them. They cast some kind of spell to enslave the students." - They're forcing the students to fight for them?
- "That's what it looks like.
That spell didn't work on us—don't know why. We carried out the Arch-Mage's orders, but then the Maulborn caught us and threw us in here with you." - What did the Arch-Mage order you to do?
- "When the trouble started, he gave us some arcane items and told us to find places to hide them. Then he went off on some mission of his own.
I'm glad you're awake. Can you get us out of here?" - I can try.
Speaking to her again:
- "Whatever you plan on doing, you have my full support. Just know that."
After you check the gate, Valeyn's Familiar arrives, having tormented the guard into fleeing for her life.
- Maulborn Black Knight: "Ahh! Leave me alone. Don't hurt me."
- Valeyn's Familiar: "Hee hee hee!"
- Tedras Relvi: "What was that?"
The banekin approaches the gate and teleport inside to speak to you:
- Valeyn's Familiar: "Back away from gate. Coming through!"
- Lena Dalvel: "This must be the familiar the Arch-Mage told us about."
- Valeyn's Familiar: "Master send me. Said to rescue you."
Speaking to Lena after the banekin arrives:
- "Trust the Arch-Mage. Go with his familiar.
We'll wait right here. Really."
After speaking to the familiar and before going in the portal:
- "We have to trust the Arch-Mage. Right?
Go with his familiar. We'll come as soon as you call us. Honest."
After getting to Lena's Lockbox on top of the large rock behind the Administrative building, Valeyn's Familiar teleports Lena to your position. You need to speak with her.
- "Wait, where am I? Why are we up so high?
That blasted banekin! It could have warned me." - Nice to see you. Can you open this lockbox?
- "The lockbox. Right. The Arch-Mage tinkered with my wand and told me to hide it up here.
That was just before Darvasen tossed me in that cell. I still can't believe the Arch-Mage's old assistant is the Maulborn general." - It sounds like the Arch-Mage has a plan.
- "He said we'd need the wand, but he didn't say why.
Wait, I know! The Maulborn have occupied the library vaults and sealed the door. And what makes the best spell of unlocking? Burnt scamp hide and illusion dust, of course!" - Where can I get those ingredients?
- "You can use my wand to scorch the scamps. And illusion dust is the residue of illusory monsters. With enough of each, we can prepare a spell to get us through to Darvasen.
We'll need Tedras, though. That spell is his specialty."
Speaking to her after this conversation:
- "I'm going to stay up here until you clear things out a bit. They're just illusions, so you'll be safe, right?
Oh, please be careful."
The next time you see her will be after you defeat Darvasen. You will awaken in a room on the ground floor of the student Dormitory.
- "You're awake! Oh, I was so worried.
I'm so glad you're all right." - What happened?
- "You shattered the Jagged Lens and broke the spell. The few Maulborn who were left were totally outnumbered, and they ran for it.
The Arch-Mage had us bring you up here. I've been watching over you. You know, as a friend." - So Shad Astula is safe again?
- "Safe as gorapple pie. Thanks to you.
And you—you weren't even supposed to be here. I heard how you got your invitation. And now we're all alive because you broke the rules. I'll have to think about that." - You watched over me the entire time?
- "Don't give me that look! I was worried about you, that's all.
Oh, and before I forget, the Arch-Mage wants to speak to you. He's right outside."
Speaking to her again:
- "I just wanted to make sure you were all right. I swear!"
At the end of the quest, you must go down to the docks and say goodbye to your friends at the Academy. Lena will give you your reward for saving Shad Astula.
- "I wasn't going to let you go away without saying goodbye."
- I'm done here. I have to return to Mournhold.
- ""I know. You have things to do. Important things. We just heard about everything you did before you arrived here.
But we didn't want you to forget us." - I won't forget you.
- "We wanted to give you something. It's not much, but maybe it will help you remember the Academy.
Now where did I put it?" - You don't have to give me a present.
- "Don't be silly. Ah, here it is.
Take my wand. It worked better for you, anyway. Remember me when you use it."
After the quest:
- "Maybe next time, I can fight at your side instead of watching from a distance.
I'd like that."
