Quest-Related Events[edit]
While helping Maerenah find her friend Tham and deal with her former gang attacking the town, you find Abel and Rosalyn hiding in the bank vault. Rosalyn will explain the survivors had hidden there while her husband Grivier lead groups out of the vault to safety. With the last trip, Tham accompanied him, but neither of them returned.
Maerenah will assist you with tracking Grivier and the survivors. Eventually you reach a broken cart surrounded by dead bloodfiends and The Terror's Orders. These orders from Balandrus the Terror reveal that in return for sparing his family, he was leading the survivors directly to the vampires. Balandrus never meant to keep his end of the bargain, with the last of the orders saying to take Grivier to the stables, turn him, and then make him choose who gets to eat his family. When Maerenah learns about what Grivier has done, she is furious and is quite willing to kill him.
When you reach the stables, you find Grivier tied up but still currently human:
- Grivier Metrick: "Maerenah? Stranger, cut me free! She's one of those monsters!"
- Maerenah: "I'm the monster? After what you did? You better speak to him. Not sure I can guarantee I won't snap his neck if I get too close."
Speak with Grivier to hear his side of the story:
- "Why are you helping Maerenah? She's one of them!
And Balandrus, the Terror of the Weald … he told me he returned to Sutch because of her. This is all her fault!" - We saw the Terror's orders. We know you've been leading the townsfolk right to the vampires.
- "You … you know about that? I had no choice! It was turn on the townsfolk or lose my family!
But you're helping Maerenah. She's one of them! She'll turn on you the moment you're no longer useful. Just like Balandrus did to me!" - Maerenah isn't part of the gang anymore. And she's no longer a vampire.
- "Doesn't matter. This is still her fault. The Terror came to Sutch looking for her. When he couldn't find her, he set his gang loose and started stockpiling weapons around town.
If I didn't make a deal, my family would be dead now. Or worse." - Why are the vampires stockpiling weapons?
- "Why do you think? Balandrus is calling himself the Terror of the Weald now. He's trying to build a vampire army! And he's using the people of Sutch to swell his ranks!
Look, whatever you may think of me, you can't leave me here to die. You can't!" - What about Tham? Your wife said he was with you. And where is Balandrus hiding out?
- "The vampires took Tham and the other townsfolk into the mines. I'm certain that's where Balandrus has his headquarters. Or do vampires call it a lair? But you can't go down there! They'll tear you apart!
Please, let me go. My family needs me."
If you try speaking with Grivier before speaking with Maerenah:
- "Please! You can't leave me like this! Not like a boar trussed up for slaughter! I need to get back to my family!"
Talking with Maerenah, you can convince her to either free Grivier or leave him behind. Depending on your choice, the following will happen:
