Clean-up[edit]
I'll be cleaning up this page today and whatever else I can get to. I'll try to make this like the other Quest pages I've seen, what with the pretty pictures and all :-P --Sir Newb de Mathenay 13:31, 13 December 2006 (EST)
- Any help with cleaning up this page would be appreciated. But I need to warn you: the site is very unstable right now, and you'll be lucky if you can continue to access UESP in half an hour. So I'd strongly recommend doing as much editing as possible offline, so you don't lose it all when the site stops responding. Sorry about the problems, and I wish I could do something concrete to fix them. --Nephele 13:46, 13 December 2006 (EST)
Cleanup redux[edit]
Tidied and rewrote portions of the page, checking on 'possibles' to confirm etc. Need to get confirmed guard shift change times - every 3 hours?, handy for timing. - lex's patrol route and times aren't needed, just when he's absent, sleeps at midnight? - leave important tips in-line?
What is the best time to rob him? I tried the 9:15 method but it doesn't work. I don't have the necessory spells that make my character disappear.--ShakenMike 13:25, 18 February 2007 (EST)
- spells for invisibility aren't 100% needed for this, just sneak - plus invisibility is broken when you enter a new section via a ladder or door, so good for the first entry but you'd need to use it again.
typically while you wait downstairs, a few guards will be sitting around eating. stay in sneak near the ladder until you are undetected and then start to ascend whilst staying in sneak. sometimes it takes a little bit whilst they are moving around the foyer area which can get annoying but perseverance and patience is the thieving way - it's not always straight in/out a la berserker-mode roleplayers :) You should be able to buy a few chameleon potions from the market district if you want to enhance things - my character's a stealth role so my sneak when i did this was about 40-ish, so not terribly high. Try visiting at noon when Lex is out at the Bloated Float - there are still shift changes and the guards sleep around the clock in shifts. --MacFodder 18:42, 18 February 2007 (EST)
Ok thanks and I'll do that then. The one I need to get is a Average lock spell to open locks.--ShakenMike 18:42, 19 February 2007 (EST)

- excellent, if i wasn't rpg'ing a thief then i can see how it could be a pain in backside! come over to the greyside - lockpicking for fun and profit! --MacFodder 18:52, 19 February 2007 (EST)
I also have the lower stats in Sneak,Security.--ShakenMike 20:59, 19 February 2007 (EST)
SOme other guides told me to do it around 11;30am but I'm not sure that is the best time to steal his items.Could I fix this page somehow?--ShakenMike 01:01, 24 February 2007 (EST)
I can't figure out the best time to do this during this quest[edit]
The guide says 9:15pm is not the right time to sneak in and sneak out. I do have average lock but I'm having problems with sneaking skill as a Minor skill. Sign by ShakenMike at 9:03PM
Just sneak in at 11pm. It's what I did and I had no problem. Also I think that the huh tag should be removed now.

"Restricted" or "Private" area?[edit]
Umm, correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that, at least on the 360, the guards' quarters are not "Restricted" areas, meaning they will arrest you on sight. What I mean is that they will ask you to leave, follow you, warn you, then FINALLY arrest you, not immediately, as said in the page. Please message back on whether or not this is right. Someevilgenius 01:53, 17 March 2008 (EDT)
- Partly true, at least. In my experience, on the second and third floor you will be treated as a trespasser and asked to leave. On the top floor - Lex's bedroom - you will be arrested immediately. However, this may be due to being warned about trespassing on the lower floors. --Gaebrial 04:45, 17 March 2008 (EDT)

- I think you must have misunderstood me, when I said the guards' quarters I meant the run-of-the-mill guards, not Lex's quarters, but yeah, I agree that the top floor is "Restricted", 2nd and 3rd are "Private", and the bottom is public. Sorry for the miscommunication. --Someevilgenius 16:16, 19 March 2008 (EDT)

- I've attempted to change the text to more accurately reflect what happens. --Gaebrial 07:24, 20 March 2008 (EDT)

- I'd like to find out how this is caused by the construction set data as it's the kind of information that could be useful in other places too. I had a look last night and couldn't see anything different between the the various floors that would cause a reaction, although I know it happens. Does anybody know what causes this? –Rpeh•T•C•E• 07:58, 20 March 2008 (EDT)

According to the CS Wiki, interior cells are flagged as 'Restricted' by being owned by an individual or faction (See the Owner NPC and Owner Faction properties), while cells are flagged as 'Private' by the setting of the 'Off Limits' flag.
I'm guessing that all floors in the watchtower are owned by the Imperial Legion, and on top of that, the bottom level is marked as 'Public Area' and Lex's bedroom is marked as 'Off Limits'.
