Name[edit]

I accept that the game itself calls this the Ebony Blade, but shouldn't it really be the Ebony Handled Blade? Ebony is, after all, wood, and certainly not shiny metal. --— Unsigned comment by ‎195.92.67.65 (talk) at 12:19 on 25 March 2007

Ebony in real life is a wood, but in the Elder Scrolls universe, it is a super-hard volcanic glass, akin to obsidian in the real world (though less fragile). This is evidenced by the fact that in Morrowind, Raw Ebony was commonly found in mines, and was definitely stone-like in appearance. Daedric armor and weapons are also ebony, but infused with the souls of Daedra by now long-forgotten crafts. --TheRealLurlock Talk 10:26, 26 March 2007 (EDT)
You can mine it in Skyrim as well. --174.6.51.17 07:58, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Gold? What about Purple?[edit]

I clearly remember ebony being purple/violet in Morrowind. Why is it much like Goldbrand in appearance? Or is it just the angle of the shot? --Matthewest TCE 02:41, 5 September 2008 (EDT)

The raw material was purple, but the eventual items were gold-colored. Especially the armor has the distinctive gold-black appearance, quite similar to what you see in Oblivion. --Timenn < talk > 07:01, 5 September 2008 (EDT)
I'm guessing that when ebony is heated or hammered, it turns a goldish colour. Thanks. --Matthewest TCE 07:08, 5 September 2008 (EDT)

Sword Statistics[edit]

Is it worth noting that the sword appears to be shorter than a longsword but has identical reach and speed? I was somewhat surprised that it looks less like a katana and more like a wakizashi. Phelaran 02:39, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

It's probably not something most players would notice, so I would tend to think it's not worth noting. Robin HoodTalk 11:01, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Ebony Blade In Skyrim[edit]

The Ebony Blade in Skyrim is much different to in morrowind and oblivion, it's black with red markings on it, it's a two-handed weapon and it gets stronger when you slay a follower / friend and you don't really do a quest for it you just have to talk to someone, pickpocket someone and open a locked door. — Unsigned comment by ‎58.166.100.20 (talk) at 13:21 on 26 January 2012

Wht relevance does that have to this article? This is the Oblivion article, not the Skyrim article.--NepheleTalk 15:29, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
