The Folly of Belletor's Folly[edit]
I spent what seemed like HOURS trying to get to the top of the section you are referring to. It's near the end of the very bottom of "Belletor's Folly Cavern"... after you go down the trapdoor. I scoured the internet for quite some time as well, all the while imagining there just HAD to be something uber-special at the top... something deemed so magical and/or powerful it had at least FOUR bandit bowmen keeping guard.
After awhile, three of the bandits eventually lept off the ledges and I was viciously attacked. I slayed them fairly easily. One bandit wussy never would come down. He'd run back and forth across the bridge and snipe at me. We had a nice little "shoot out" for over five minutes. It was pretty fun, but I finally put him down like some kind of bulletproof deer.
I had read about this "paintbrush trick" somewhere on the internet where you basically equip a paintbrush and then drop it. It floats in mid-air wherever you place it. You get the idea, now--just create "virtual rungs" on a ladder of sorts that climbs into the air. You'll need all the paintbrushes you can get... trust me. Or just do the "duplication trick" and load up. Now good luck assembling your virtual ladder. As soon as I read about this trick, I headed straight for good ole Belletor's Mine.
I can't even begin to tell you what a hassle this was to get it just right and FINALLY make it to the top to the natural bridge that connects the two ledges. After I made that final jump to solid ground, I was absolutely shocked by what I saw next. I mean, we are talking chills, here. Now I wish I could tell you there were dead elven children scattered around and a big, sleeping dragon and magical swords and bows that do 100+ damage to health and constant effect rings and stuff that fortify your acrobatics to 500, etc., etc., etc.... but alas, this was one of the biggest disappointments in recent gaming memory. There are two chests, one on either side of the bridge. An unlocked chest containing 88 gold pieces. The other one, a hard locked chest, contains... are you ready for this? A whopping 64 gold coins, if I remember correctly. Oh, and the final bandit bowman had a decent "Bow of Storms" that does Shock Damage 20 on target. BANG! That's it. I guess that's the real FOLLY of Belletor's Folly. The joke is on us! Ha ha ha Bethesda!
But I must say, there is a certain sense of accomplishment. I think I'm the first person--or certainly one of--to truly conquer the mysteries of Belletor. I shall cherish this memory and take it with me to my grave inside the Imperial City.
Regards, Brad

P.S. Actually, the REAL mystery is how in the heck did those bandit bowmen get up there in the first place? Trust me, there is NO hidden wall or passageway or anything leading in or out. My theory? Those expletive climbed the big vines that hang down in the middle of the room. Our protagonist can't, but those wily bandit bowmen can. Interesting.— Unsigned comment by Psynaps (talk • contribs)
- Congrats on finding a way up there. I'm still wondering if there is a way to get up there without using a bug (via some levitate spell, or the like). I'm going to go ahead and edit the notes on the page itself, to streamline it. I'll still point towards the discuss and give you credit for the discovery. Fushi 04:46, 25 April 2006 (PDT)

- I've come to this page after spending considerable time trying to work out how to get up there without cheating. No luck here either, searching both at the bottom and top of the canyon. I had an Acrobatics skill of 127 while attempting to "climb" the walls so I'm out of ideas now. So, for PC users, the console command tcl is the easiest way to get up there, but congrats to psynapz on using the paintbrushes. --Actreal 03:00, 27 May 2006 (EDT)
I'm sure many of you have figured out that there is no mystery to getting to the upper level of the large cavern. Just follow the map of Belletor's Folly Cavern from door D to the top right corner. Follow this tunnel (it goes up very steep) and you come out on the upper level of the large central cavern.
I targeted each bandit individually and they would race around, up the tunnel where I could take them out individually. No problem!!
I do agree that the treasure was a bit light seeing the number of guards, hardware and locks guarding it.

- Not true, both entrances to the great chamber are at the low level... SwedishBerzerker at youtube.com 13:08, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
Percentages[edit]
Um... The first level of Beletor's folly shows 50% 25% 12% & 12% equalling a total of 99, not 100. — Unsigned comment by Drake3555 (talk • contribs)
- You're right; the two 12% entries should actually be 12.5%; I'll leave it to the people working on the re-design project to decide if that should be corrected or not (or just put in terms of 8ths, as it appears in the CS).--Robin Hood (Talk • E-mail • Contribs) 22:23, 20 May 2008 (EDT)
Top of the Canyon[edit]
After spending a good 15 minutes, I still cannot get to the top of the canyon in the last area. Both doors come in at the bottom of the canyon. The passage with the dead treasure hunter goes to the other side of the canyon, still at the bottom. --DKong27 Talk 02:20, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
- You can't find a way up because there isn't one. I even turned off collisions and scanned outside the room to make sure I wasn't missing any secret passages or anything. It seems odd that they've planted several chests up there, given that the player can never reach it, but we've seen a couple of cases like that before. I suspect either there was a design change in the dungeon or they put the chests there as a reward for those that super-enhance their stats and can actually make that kind of a jump. ‒ Robin Hood↝Talk 17:37, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

- The last section of the page seems a bit...misleading if it really is impossible to get up there. --DKong27 Talk 23:34, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

- I've revised the wording to make it more clear. If there is some other way up there that I somehow missed, I'm sure someone will be along shortly to correct me. :) ‒ Robin Hood↝Talk 23:50, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

- It is possible to reach the top of the canyon: just follow the corridor where the dead adventurer is. I tested this yesterday and it worked fine, unless it's my game/UOP... which I seriously doubt. --SerCenKing Talk 09:27, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

- I ask for forgiveness, it is indeed the UOP, at least according to my CS... I'll re-tweak the walkthrough accordingly. --SerCenKing Talk 09:35, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Chance Table[edit]
Is the table really needed on this page? The figures are easily seen on the Bandit page and the table looks somewhat out of place. --DKong27 Talk 21:38, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
- It had originally been text-oriented and looked cluttered. When I converted it to a table (which I agree looks out of place, but seemed better than the text), I hadn't realized that it was already on the Bandit page. I think you're right: given that it's there, there's no need to include that information here. ‒ Robin Hood↝talk 22:35, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
not really a bug[edit]
i think the bug should be listed as a note, in my mind a bug is something in the game not working properly, which isnt the case here. everything in the cave is working as intended, they just didnt finish the cave, it seems like an oversight by whoever was in charge of the cave, they didnt add a path to it and never fixed it so that should be noted. bugs make me think of things that will freeze the game or cause other problems due to the programing, not developer oversight.--Lord.Baal (talk) 05:07, 25 March 2013 (GMT)
- Technically, yes, this is not a bug, but rather something that we as the end-users think is missing. However, that's just semantics. Common usage of the term "bug" includes things like this. The UOP template works best with the bug template, so I don't see how it's really worth changing. If you want to change it, go for it. Just keep in mind that someone may object and/or revert, it just won't be me. --Xyzzy Talk 04:02, 26 March 2013 (GMT)

- When an editor says they won't revert, at least wait to see if they keep their word. Anyways, I agree that it isn't a real bug, on the basis that many other places have inaccessible chests, and you can still kill the archers. The Bug template is fine when used with the UOP, it makes formatting easier, but neither use of the bug template, or a fix from the Unofficial Bugs people is enough basis to make it a bug. - That is pretty funny. I completely forgot about this discussion when I reverted your edit. To be fair (to me), it has been almost a month, and I can barely remember what I did yesterday. I will bow out and let your edit stand. --Xyzzy Talk 13:31, 20 April 2013 (GMT)
