Gruiand Garrana

Gruiand Garrana is an Imperial crusader and the Primate of the Chapel of Arkay in Cheydinhal. She offers advanced training in Speechcraft. Gruiand can possibly die during the Knights of the Nine quest The Sword of the Crusader.

Being the Primate is hard work, and because Gruiand believes in supervising all the Chapel's priests and healers as much as she possibly can, her daily schedule is very tight. She gets out of bed every morning at 6am, and wanders around in the Chapel Hall for two hours. After that, she will head upstairs and pray for two hours in front of the Altar of the Nine. Then, she heads downstairs to the Chapel Undercroft, for some more wandering and an occasional chat with the chapel guard. She surfaces again at midday, where she will wander around the upper level of the Chapel, and will keep doing so, until she heads back down to the Chapel Hall at 4pm. Here, she will drift around for another two hours, preferably near her Private Quarters in the southeastern end of the Hall. At 6pm, she will do another two hours of praying at the altar, until she finally finds a seat in the Hall and enjoy her dinner. At 10pm, she will take one last round in the Chapel Hall, before she goes to bed at midnight. She will offer training at all times, except when sleeping, praying or eating.

Her attire consists of a black & burgundy outfit and a pair of gold trimmed shoes. She carries around two keys, one for the Undercroft, and another for the Chapel. She also carries a considerable amount of gold, depending on your level. In combat she will rely on her leveled crusader spells.

Dialogue[edit]

Not surprisingly, she is very well spoken and will introduce herself by saying:

"I am Gruiand Garrana, Primate of Arkay, and spiritual leader of the Cheydinhal Chapel. In that capacity, I'm pleased to offer Advanced Training in Speechcraft, that the faithful might better spread the word of Gods' graces"
Cheydinhal
"I closely supervise the priests and healers of Cheydinhal Chapel, so they might more closely approach the sacred ideals of our faith."

Related Quests[edit]

Quest-Related Events[edit]

Speechcraft Training[edit]

Being an advanced trainer, Gruiand can provide you with the necessary reference for the Speechcraft Master Training quest. Once your Speechcraft skill level reaches 70 and you speak to her, she will say:

Training
"Tandilwe has a true mastery of the spoken word. She is the one you should speak with about more training. Seek her out at the Temple of the One in the Imperial City."

If asked again, she reiterates:

Training
"Find Tandilwe at the Temple of the One in the Imperial City. She can train you further."

The Sword of the Crusader[edit]

During the quest, Aurorans will attack the chapel and she will be caught up in it, should she find herself in the main chapel hall. If she dies during this quest or for whatever other reason before the end of Umaril the Unfeathered, she will be replaced by Inius Colus. Inius is basically identical to Gruiand, other than being male instead of female and not providing the Speechcraft Master Training reference.

Rumors[edit]

Gruiand's self-satisfaction is not shared by the townsfolk of Cheydinhal. When asked about rumors, they will reveal her to be more occupied with herself than her chapel duties:

"Gruiand Garrana can talk her way out of anything. Of course, all she usually talks about is herself."
"That Gruiand Garrana is really full of herself. She'll talk your ear off, if you let her."

To which others will respond:

"Gruiand is a bit high and mighty. She does have a way with words, though."
"She's silver-tongued, but I don't want to listen to her."

Similarly, others will ask:

"Have you ever spoken to Gruiand Garrana?"
"Have you heard Gruiand Garrana talking about herself again?"

Eliciting the following replies:

"I find her annoying. She's way too full of herself. Quite the big talker."
"I don't like to talk to her. All she wants to talk about is herself."
