in conjunction for 1 second question[edit]

Looking at this statement: "When weakness is used in conjunction with an effect that does damage over several seconds, the weakness only needs a duration of 1 to allow the damage to take effect."

Is this describing a hypothetical single spell with both effects? If so, does it matter what order they're in, ie 1st weakness to X type for 1 second, then 2nd X type damage for T seconds? Would it work in reverse order?

If we were to add a third effect, weakness to magicka for 1s, would it act as a multiplier for the weakness to X element effect? If so, should the weakness to magicka effect be positioned before or after weakness to X element? Chill fridge (talk) 22:51, 17 June 2023 (UTC)

I know this is late, but hopefully it serves future readers well. (I'll try to add it to the wiki page too.)
It seems that you do in fact, need to have the Weakness Effect positioned/applied first. This can be tested through self-target spells.
The following results were tested on a maxed out Breton character using an unmodified version of the GOTY release on steam. No community patches installed, and no elemental effects were accidentally in place from racial bonuses or enchants.
Test 1 = "Shock 10pts for 2 secs on self" resulted in 20 damage. (Base Damage)
Test 2 = "Shock 10pts for 2 secs on self + Weakness to Shock 100% for 2 secs on self" resulted in 20 damage. (Base Damage)
Test 3 = "Weakness to Shock 100% for 2 secs on self + Shock 10pts for 2 secs on self" resulted in 29 damage. (Big Change)
Test 4 = "Weakness to Shock 100% on self + Shock 10pts for 2 secs on self" resulted in 29 damage. (Big change, cheaper than Test 3)
I did some testing for spells without DoT too, and without listing the results for the sake of brevity, it was pretty much the exact same. (20 damage vs 29 damage)
Conclusion: Position the Weakness effect first for 1 second. Then add the damage spell. Aviii 08:44, 24 June 2024 (UTC)
