Gaenors luck[edit]
This page says he has 255, but his page states 770, what's the right one? 82.95.155.246 12:33, 28 October 2008 (EDT)
- 770 - it just got changed recently. Good spot - I've fixed it here now. Thanks! –Rpeh•T•C•E• 13:15, 28 October 2008 (EDT)
Usefulness (?)[edit]
Has anyone ever really seen Luck work? I experimented with different Luck values (using the console), but even with Luck 1000 the game didn't really "feel" different. Karl1965 08:25, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
- you have a higher chance of hitting, casting spells everything the best thing to test with is gaenor in tribunal with just 40 luck you barely ever hit him, if you have 100 luck you'll hit him pretty often (Eddie the head 08:38, 30 May 2011 (UTC))
- If I remember right, isn't the effect of luck actually *physically* visible on the chance to cast a spell?? IE. with a higher luck, the spell chance number on the inventory page is higher... You can also verify luck does indeed factor in by reading the various calculations used in the game, like the chance to hit stuff:
Chance to hit = Attacker's weapon skill * 1.25 + Attacker's Attack (e.g. Warrior = 10) - Defender's Sanctuary (e.g. Thief = 10) + (Attacker's Agility - Defender's Agility) * 0.25 + (Attacker's Luck - Defender's Luck) * 0.125
Weroj 09:07, 30 May 2011 (UTC)- The is a difference in almost everything you do. With that luck of 1000 you should have hit your opponents on every swing, and they would not be able to hit you at all. You should also be able to pick any lock with the worse picks. And, yes, your spell chances should all be 100%. --Brf 13:52, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
- I use the Code Patch, with its maximum of 500 magnitude on custom spells, and with an insanely high luck value (something like 10000 - achievable through the 'broken' alchemy system) I've been able to cast some obnoxious spells, like Fire Damage 500 for 30 seconds and night eye spells lasting almost 1/2 hour!DextroWombat 08:10, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

(←) Thanks, I had some more testing since I wrote the question. It seems that luck is just added to whatever attributes and skills do. Very high values produce superhuman potions in alchemie and let you admire people to 100 disposition in one try... Are there any reliable informations about the actual formulas used in the game? Or is all this just guesswork? However, I would not raise luck when levelling up as long as there are other attributes <100. Karl1965 11:52, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
- If you raise luck with the other attributes, you can reach 100 in everything. If you do not, you will have 100 in all of the other attributes, and not luck, and not be able to raise it to 100 without cheating. --Brf 14:11, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
Luck vs Loot[edit]
I'm curious -- where did the consensus regarding Luck vis-a-vis Loot come from. After a long hiatus, I'm playing Morrowind again, and I recall a *distinct* difference in random loot when I created an item that raised my luck, particularly in regard to recovering Grand versus lesser (That is, 'not Grand') Soul gems, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't limited to just that. — Unsigned comment by Jonnan001 (talk • contribs) on 1 May 2012
- I tested extremely high values of luck versus extremely low values of luck, and I was unable to find any significant difference in a large number of com_chest_01_pos containers, which have a very low chance to have a large number of valuable items, a fair chance to find a potion, and will always get junk and gold. I found the expected result: gold, junk, and the occasional potion. Didn't see anything else. People have tested this before, and they also found this, so I'm going to take the "Good Question" tag off of this.
- This is almost definitely a case of confirmation bias for those who see a difference. - Gormadoc (talk) 03:35, 2 January 2015 (GMT)
- I also tested values of loot at the same level, with different luck stats (specifically, two level 1 characters, one with 40 luck and one with 50 luck, searching the randomized loot in the crates on the "dock" in Addamasartus) and found that the character with 50 luck was in fact more likely to find potions and soul gems than the one with 40 luck. I documented the experiment thoroughly, but I do not know where to post my notes. Pavielpetrovich (talk) 13:43, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

VN: Can Luck Make-or-Break Starting Spells?[edit]
TLDR: Yes. A bit contrived but technically yes.
Given the following setup:
- Race: Dark Elf, Khajiit, Redguard or Wood Elf
- Willpower 30: not favored attribute
- Specialization: Combat or Stealth
- No +5 to Conjuration
- Major Skill: Conjuration
- Adds +25 to Conjuration
We get the following results:
- Luck 40: not favored attribute, starts with Bound Dagger only
- Luck 50: favored attribute, starts with Bound Dagger AND Summon Ancestral Ghost
