His Greetings

So, in addition to needing confirmation on getting the "[whispering] Psst! Outlander!..." response (I noticed Morrowind:Zainab Nerevarine mentions a bug where this line might not trigger after speaking with Falura then Kausahd, which is currently unverified), I've also noticed he has a couple other greetings. I'm not sure when these occur:

• "Welcome, %PCName. Ashkhan Kaushad is always ready to listen."
• "Well, %PCName. Are you ready to begin our ritual challenge?"(Part of a scrapped questline? It's said to trigger on Journal "B3_ZainabBride" >= 10, but I don't see any Journal entry matching that.)
• "You have lost, %PCName. So where is my exquisite shirt?" (Also scrapped? This one is set for Journal "B3_ZainabBride" >= 14, and I don't see an entry like that either.)
• "I underestimated you, outlander. Indeed, you have proved yourself worthy to be named Nerevarine by the Ashkhan of the Zainab."
• "Welcome, outlander. The hospitality of the open-handed Zainab is always open to travelers." (Looks like this is what you might see if you talk to Kaushad but haven't gotten the Zainab Nerevarine quest?)

Taking these in order:

The bug report on the Zainab Nerevarine page about the "[whispering] Psst! Outlander!..." dialogue not triggering if you talk to Falura first is incorrect. Yes, if you talk to Falura before talking to Kaushad you won't get this response immediately, but that's because you need to talk to Falura again after Kaushad names you Nerevarine in order to get it. This is the sequence of events:

• When you return to Kaushad with Falura, B3_ZainabBride will be at stage 47. This stage is set by FaluraScript when you enter the Ashkhan's yurt with Falura in tow. If you speak with her about the topic "my bridegroom" at this point, she will give you the following response: "He is very distinguished-looking, isn't he? A bit severe, perhaps, but the lines on his face, there, show that he likes to smile. Oh, sera. I think I will be very happy." This response does not advance the quest, however.

• Kaushad will greet you with: "Greetings, outlander. Have you returned with my Telvanni bride?" Talking to him at this point about "Telvanni bride" yields the response: "This is my new bride? I am very pleased with your gift, %PCName... though she is not so generous in the hips as I would like. I promise to make her a happy bride, and to do her honor as a high-born Telvanni lady. And, as I have said, I will now name you Zainab Nerevarine, War Leader of the Zainab, and Protector of the People. I must also give you the Zainab Thong, an enchanted heirloom of the tribe, which shall be a sign to all Dunmer that the Zainab have named you Nerevarine." This response advances the quest by setting B3_ZainabBride to stage 50.

• Now, if you talk with Falura about "my bridegroom" again, she gives a different response than before: "Thank you, sera. I am very pleased with Ashkhan Kaushad. He is good-looking, clever, and rich, although a bit full of himself, like all men. Thank you for being my matchmaker and benefactor, and I hope you will return to visit when I have brought many fine sons and daughters to Ashkhan Kaushad." This response requires B3_ZainabBride to be at stage 50 or above, and in turn sets B3_ZainabBride to stage 55.

• Talking with Kaushad about "Telvanni bride" again at this point now yields the "[whispering] Psst! Outlander!..." response; this response requires B3_ZainabBride to be at stage 55 and in turn sets B3_ZainabBride to stage 60 and gives the player the Ashkhan's Wedding Gift exquisite shirt.

• Choosing the "Telvanni bride" topic after this point will give the "Indeed, she is charming, outlander. Thank you again." response which requires B3_ZainabBride to be at stage 60.

For his greetings, taking them all in the order they occur in the Construction Set:

1. "So. You are %PCName. The outlander who claims to fulfill the Nerevarine prophecies. You are welcome to our hospitality, outlander. But you must tell us... how can an outlander be the Nerevarine?": You will get this greeting if you have received the Moon and Star ring from Azura (A2_6_Incarnate >= 50) and you have not spoken to him before (Talked To PC = 0).
   
2. "Welcome, outlander. The hospitality of the open-handed Zainab is always open to travelers.": You will get this greeting if you have not spoken to him before (Talked To PC = 0) and you have not received Moon and Star from Azura (otherwise the above greeting would take precedence).
   
3. "Welcome, Nerevarine. We are pleased to see you.": You will get this greeting if he has named you Zainab Nerevarine (B3_ZainabBride >= 50).
   
4. "Greetings, outlander. Have you returned with my Telvanni bride?": You will get this greeting if he has asked you to find him a Telvanni bride (B3_ZainabBride >= 22) and you haven't given him Falura yet (which would set B3_ZainabBride to 50, resulting in the above greeting taking precedence).
   
5. "I underestimated you, outlander. Indeed, you have proved yourself worthy to be named Nerevarine by the Ashkhan of the Zainab." (requires B3_ZainabBride >= 15)
   
6. "You have lost, %PCName. So where is my exquisite shirt?" (requires B3_ZainabBride >= 14)
   
7. "Well, %PCName. Are you ready to begin our ritual challenge?" (requires B3_ZainabBride >= 10):
   

You will never get these three greetings since the conditions required to trigger them will never exist. When Kaushad asks you to kill the vampire Calvario, B3_ZainabBride is set to stage 5, which is too low to trigger these greetings. Once you have killed Calvario, Kaushad will ask you for a Telvanni bride and tell you to visit the Telvanni lords; this will set both stage 20 and 22 of B3_ZainabBride simultaneously, which results in greeting #4 taking precedence. Since B3_ZainabBride will never take on values between 5 and 20, the conditions to trigger these three greetings will never be fulfilled. (My guess is these greetings came from a different version of the Telvanni bride quest.)

1. "Welcome, %PCName. Ashkhan Kaushad is always ready to listen.": You will never get this greeting, since the condition required to trigger it (B3_ZainabBride >= 50) is already met by greeting #3 above; since that greeting is higher in the dialogue chain, it will always be picked first. (I personally suspect that the condition has a typo and should be B3_ZainabBride >= 5, not 50.)
   
2. "Welcome, outlander.": This is his default greeting; you will get this if none of the above greetings trigger first.

This is a huge help! I suspected "You have lost...", "Are you read to begin...", "I underestimated you, outlander,..." and "Ashkhan Kaushad is always ready to listen." greetings were unobtainable, so it's good to have some confirmation. I appreciate you looking into that "bug" about the "[whispering] Psst! Outlander!..." line too. ThreeC (talk) 00:57, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
