Big changes[edit]
If I'd realized I wouldn't be able to do this in one marathon session, I might have sandboxed it. But I still plan on coming back pretty soon. Thoughts about further changes:
- Necromancy: I think there are some references in ESO that talk more about the connection between undead bodies and souls.
- Split vestige into a separate article?
- Rethink how this article relates to the one about soul shriven (maybe remove some information from there, some from here)?
- Mention Amulet of Kings at all?
- Finish a big search I was doing for other information.
- Enumerate afterlife stories? (There are quite a few, but I think you could actually reasonably do a table based on what parts of which realm a soul ends up in.)

- The Amulet of Kings should definately be mentioned. I came here, looking for the name of the soul gem in the Amulet of Kings. Also, are there any other Divine Soul Gems, besides that one and Azura's Star? Please add that information, even if only as a link. 72.251.14.90 03:54, 18 January 2016 (UTC)

- The soul gem in the Amulet of Kings was called the Chim-el Adabal by the Ayleids. Men sometimes referred to it as the Red Diamond. As for other examples of "Divine" Soul Gems, the only one that I know of is the Mantella, which was used as a substitute for the Heart of Lorkhan to power the Numidium during the events of Daggerfall. – Lord Nyriox talk 19:45, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
Divine soul size?[edit]
Correct me if im wrong but, i don't believe I've ever come across any soul size beyond the usual Petty, Lesser, Common, Greater and Grand. iv never heard any mention of Divine sized souls like it says on the article, what game is that size in? Lord Walnut (talk) 15:10, 3 October 2014 (GMT)
- Vivec and Almalexia in Morrowind. —Legoless (talk) 17:34, 3 October 2014 (GMT)
- Ah thanks, haven't played that game in depth, the lack of the map markers like in the later games kinda puts me off playing for long. Lord Walnut (talk) 13:26, 4 October 2014 (GMT)
Where do soul gems come from?[edit]
Are they artificially created or are they mined? Black soul gems appear to be artificially created. In Morrowind, some daedric shrines had purple or red crystals growing, are those crystals related? --Zach9054 (talk) 23:30, 11 May 2015 (GMT)
- Souls gems are shaped from naturally-occurring crystals that have been mined, and black gems are created through a necromantic ritual from Grand soul gems. Not sure about the red crystals from Morrowind, they could be natural gems that are 'pre-corrupted' by their proximity to Daedric energies? -- Hargrimm(T) 23:45, 11 May 2015 (GMT)

Soul Cairn and black soul gems[edit]
So according to Serana "She had a theory about soul gems. That the souls inside of them don't just vanish when they're used... they end up in the Soul Cairn."
But also "The Soul Cairn is home to very powerful beings. Necromancers send them souls, and receive powers of their own in return."
Shouldn't it be noted that it is a theory? And that the Ideal Masters apparently still have to barter for the souls? Why would they need to do that if get them either way?Especially since not all black soul gems come from the Soul Cairn. --84.172.60.113 16:40, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
- That's speculatory. The Masters bargaining for more souls has nothing to do with trapped souls going there. —Legoless (talk) 16:53, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
-
- Of course it does,if they go there by default they wouldn't need to bargain for them.Serana even says that it is a THEORY ,it is not a fact and shouldn't be treated like a fact.--217.80.42.227 16:41, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

-
- The reason they would need to bargain is to have more souls. The theory says that trapped souls go to the Soul Cairn not all souls, the Ideal Masters want/need people to fill more gems so they get more souls. If no one soul-trapped a person then they would not get any souls. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 17:34, 22 July 2017 (UTC)

Soul eggs[edit]
In Redguard, Dreekius mentions some very interesting stuff about a soul gem alternative used in Black Marsh. Not sure how to squeeze it into the article without breaking flow though. --Agiletek (talk) 17:38, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
- Oh wow, that's actually really interesting information. It could be added here and maybe onto Lore:Soul Magic as well. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 23:33, 3 April 2021 (UTC)
Splitting off Soul Gems into their own lore page.[edit]
Soul gem have a lot of lore, while Soul Gems hold souls, they are not the subject matter of this page. There is enough information on the subject matter that I feel warrant splitting off this page into its own independent lore page. Its been on my mind for a bit. Anyone have any opinions when it comes to support, objecting or otherwise supporting the move towards moving this subject matter to its own lore page?TheVampKnight (talk) 01:25, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, they have way too much info on them to be relegated here, I've been planning to make a page for it but never got around to it. We can go ahead and turn Lore:Soul Gems from a redirect into an article. The Rim of the Sky (talk) 06:52, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

- Well if there is no objections to this then well either I or someone else here can do the information transfer, It doesn't matter who does it.TheVampKnight (talk) 08:07, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

- FYI, I started writing a Soul Gems lore page back on wikia with another user but I never got around to finishing it. Its has a lot of research and sources if you wish to check it out and get a start: https://elderscrolls.fandom.com/wiki/User:Jimeee/sandbox14 --Jimeee (talk) 15:36, 6 April 2021 (UTC)
