Purpose of the tower?[edit]

The Tower was used as a fortress, prison, and palace by the Direnni Hegemony but its true purpose has remained a mystery. Isn't its purpose, along with the other Towers to keep Mundus and Oblivion separate?--Veloth 05:58, 12 August 2008 (EDT)

I thought it was the Dragon Fire's in the 'Temple of the One' that keeps Oblivion and the mortal plain seperate. but who is to say that these towers dont exist around tamriel. that they where placed by the high elves to keep a balance. i presume there may be something in daggerfall?--Phillmorton82 07:46, 26 November 2008 (EST)
Oblivion doesn't explain it's own plot. It merely makes hints at nothing. The real world explanation of how the lore was written is complicated. Suffice to say, the Dragonfires are a rather mysterious invention of the Septims that complements the two more significant components- Amulet of Kings and the Tower, which have been around for ages. The Elves did indeed create many Towers throughout Tamriel, but as with many things, it is recent lore, still being written as games and expansions come out. So don't look at Daggerfall- I'm pretty sure dwarves were still short back then.71.244.119.102 11:27, 26 November 2008 (EST)
lol, just like evangelion. something to make your own conclusions. i only suggested daggerfall as that is there the tower is located. i have not played the game :S (slap on wrist maybe)--Phillmorton82 12:29, 26 November 2008 (EST)
The bit about the 'oldest structure, mysterious origins' and the cylinder of metal does date back to ES 2, however. Direnni is not man-made and its counterpart is Red Mountain. The Aldmer simply imitated it. There are others in Skyrim, Summerset Isles, and possibly Valenwood.71.244.119.102 13:54, 26 November 2008 (EST)

Rename?[edit]

I don't believe Direnni tower should be the title as the name is in homage to Direnni, who only siezed control of it and had no impact on its actual creation. I think Adamantine Tower would be a more appropriate name as it isn't named after a clan. What do you guys think? -- Topal (talk) 10:04, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Hard to call. The article was named Direnni Tower because that's the most modern name of the structure, but more recent lore seems to have favoured Adamantine. If there's a post-Warp source that doesn't call it Direnni, a rename might be worth considering. —Legoless (talk) 10:28, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
PGE3 calls it Adamantine in a few places, as do some books like The Lunar Lorkhan, Mysterious Akavir, and Before the Ages of Man, which were originally post-Warp sources before they reappeared in ESO. It's also mentioned in one of Skyrim's loading screens. --Vordur Steel-Hammer (TINV1K) 10:59, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
PGE3 and BtAoM both imply that at the time of their writing, Direnni Tower is the current name. The Skyrim loading screen suggests that Direnni Tower is a secondary name to Adamantine; I think we should follow the same setup. --Enodoc (talk) 13:04, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
Noticed this got basically agreed upon but never done, I came to this discussion page to see if anybody had brought this up because I think Direnni Tower as the primary name of the page is pretty ill fitting, would be nice to go ahead and execute the previously agreed upon name change. Dcking20 (talk) 00:39, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
In ESO they rarely call it "Direnni" anyway, a rename would be ok The Rim of the Sky (talk) 06:33, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

UOL[edit]

UOL was recently added to the page. Per policy, all UOL needs to be discussed on the talk page first and consensus reached.

'''House of We''',{{ref|name=ShorSon|group=UOL|[[General:Shor son of Shor|Shor son of Shor]]}}

This essentially seems to add a new name to the tower. However, this places it in a very prominent position, that our guidelines say UOL shouldn't be placed. I suggest maybe moving it to be a note on the page, rather than in the first line. Jeancey (talk) 19:17, 19 November 2020 (UTC)

The extra name doesn't improve the reader's understanding, I think a note suffices. -Dcsg (talk) 19:35, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
extra name is fine. can stay in lead papragraph🤗🤗 The Rim of the Sky (talk) 19:42, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
The lore keeps flowing no matter what....we’re not ramping down, we’re just getting started. Nothing stops this train. Nothing. (Restore the information.)Dcking20 (talk) 23:07, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
I agree that the UOL name can be regulated to the notes section of the page. Enderkingdev (talk) 23:57, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, notes section seems best in this case. --Jimeee (talk) 00:54, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
I think it's fine in the lead. Bolding in the notes section seems like a fair compromise if others disagree though. —Legoless (talk) 08:36, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
