Lore:House Davaux
|
House Davaux is a prominent Breton noble house based in the kingdom of Wayrest, High Rock, with a history of influence spanning across the First and Second Eras.[1][2]
History[edit]
First Era[edit]
Although the exact date of House Davaux's establishment remains obscure, the oldest records documenting its existence predate the formation of the All Flags Navy and Bendu Olo's assault on Thras in 1E 2260. By that time, the Davaux lineage had already been regarded as ancient, and the House has been dedicated to the service of High Rock and Tamriel for numerous generations.[1]
The Davaux family played a notable role in the establishment and early endeavors of the All Flags Navy. During the assembly of the original fourteen ships that served as the cornerstone of this powerful naval force, Captain Lisolda Davaux took command of one of these vessels, named The King's Jest. A plaque, commemorating her name, was installed on the All Flags Islet.[3] Another member of the family, Captain Isara Davaux, made contributions to the All Flags Navy's mission, even though she wasn't part of the initial group of fourteen.[1]
Second Era[edit]
During the Interregnum in the mid-Second Era, Lady Arabelle Davaux was a prominent member of the house. She held the rank of Lion Guard captain, worked with the Ring of Daggers intelligence agency, and was associated with the Society of the Steadfast, advocating for peace talks during the Three Banners War.[4] Some believed she was either the author or inspiration for the popular Investigator Vale detective novels.[2][5][6]
During that era, another individual from the Davaux family, Jorvuld Davaux, was a mage, healer, scholar, and historian with expertise in the history of the Dragon Priests.[7][8][9] He led the expedition to explore Scalecaller Peak and successfully thwarted the resurgence of the Dragon Cult branch, influenced by Zaan and the Daedric Prince Peryite. He also played a vital role in stopping the terrible plague, though it is unknown whether he succumbed to it or not.[10] His Breton family adhered to a practice of adopting Nordic given names, a tradition rooted in his maternal line's proud legacy of Nord scholars. It is unclear if this tradition extended to all members of the Davaux family.[11]
In the mid-Second Era, during the Interregnum, Davaux was a common surname among Bretons. People with the Davaux surname could be found in various roles, from innkeepers to servants of local nobles, particularly in the Blackwood region.[12][13][14] Moreover, the name Davaux was present in Elsweyr, with Anais Davaux serving as a messenger representing Chancellor Abnur Tharn.[15]
