The Glenumbra Banks are a series of shifting sand bars and narrow islets off the northwest coast of High Rock. They are littered with rotting spars and twisted planks of shipwrecks, the remains of ships that attempted to cross the Banks' treacherous and ever-changing channels. Guiding ships wend merchant vessels through the channels and are well paid for the job.[1]
Even after calm, stormless nights, the sands shift and the Banks change. The morphous nature of the Banks cannot be attributed to the far-off Herne Current, nor the westward Yokudan Zephyr. An explanation, offered by a veteran navigator of the Banks, is that the legendary, immortal leviathan Ithguleoir causes the changes. Supposedly, the monster's oily back can be seen breaching the water's surface as he digs devious traps in the Banks.[1]
Notes[edit]
- In The Elder Scrolls Online, a large landmass can be viewed over the horizon of the Eltheric Ocean near Farwatch Tower in Glenumbra. According to then-Lead Loremaster Lawrence Schick, this is part of the Glenumbra Banks.[UOL 1]
