Lore:Boots of Blinding Speed
The Boots of Blinding Speed are a pair of netch leather boots which bear a powerful enchantment that greatly augments the user's speed at the cost of their vision. It is possible to negate the blinding effects through the use of magic, such as night vision or magical resistances.[1][2]
History[edit]
In 3E 427, the boots were seen on the island of Vvardenfell in the possession of a Redguard by the name of Pemenie, who asked the Nerevarine for safe passage to Gnaar Mok. The Nerevarine complied, and received the boots upon leading her there. The Nerevarine was then informed by locals that Pemenie was in fact a wanted felon; upon interrogation, she became hostile and had to be killed.[3] Later that year, the boots were sold to a Dunmer noblewomen by the name of Torasa Aram, who put them on display in her Museum of Artifacts in Mournhold.[4]
Sometime between 3E 246 and 3E 427, many trunks of netch leather were brought to Cascabel Hall near Solitude by Nordic soldiers. Believing it to be hard tack, they had looted the leather while on an incursion into Morrowind.[5] One such shipment contained the Boots of Blinding Speed together with a set of boiled netch leather armor. By the Fourth Era, nothing remained of the castle at Cascabel Hall, and the chest containing the boots had been moved to the nearby Fort Hraggstad.[6]
In 4E 201, after aiding a group of leather-eating rieklings on Solstheim, the Last Dragonborn learned of the location of this netch leather shipment in Fort Hraggstad. The fort at this time was initially occupied by bandits, although the Imperial Legion and the Stormcloaks both fought for control of it during the Stormcloak Rebellion. The Dragonborn successfully located the netch leather armor, discovering the boots in the process.[7]
