Skyrim:A Jarl's Justice
|
Quick Walkthrough[edit]
- Speak with Isran.
- Warn the jarl of the vampire threat.
- Find and take evidence to the jarl.
- (Alternate) Discreetly kill the Visiting Advisor and return to Isran.
- Kill the Visiting Advisor.
- Report back to Isran.
Detailed Walkthrough[edit]
After speaking with Isran, you will be sent to inform a random jarl of a vampire threat within their court. The jarl will note the seriousness of your allegation, and ask for evidence. This can be obtained by pickpocketing the Visiting Advisor, who can usually be found in the main court room of the jarl's hall, for his orders. Note that if your pickpocket attempt fails he will attack you, often leading to confrontation with nearby NPCs and likely death. This method is particularly effective when you are a Thane of the relevant hold, as you will then be able to tell the guards to disregard your crime.
Return to the jarl with the note and they will grant you leave to kill the vampire with no retaliation from the hold's guards. Note that despite nominally being a vampire, the Adviser is immune to the Sun Fire spell [verification needed — see talk page]. Alternatively, you can skip the evidence gathering stage and instead discreetly eliminate the Visiting Advisor through either stealth or using a Frenzy spell while hidden. Once the vampire lies dead, return to Isran.
Notes[edit]
- If the Jarl you were to report to is deposed, including via Season Unending, this quest will automatically be completed.
- It is impossible for the advisor to be at the court of Maven Black-Briar or Ulfric Stormcloak, due to their unique voice types.
- Unlike other Dawnguard radiant quests, this one can only occur every twelve days at best.
Bugs[edit]
- Isran will only assign Dawnstar or Riften as target locations for this quest.
- The Unofficial Dawnguard Patch, version 2.0.0, fixes this bug.
- The advisor is supposed to stay within a certain distance of the jarl, but in locations like Understone Keep and occasionally others, this can leave the advisor inside a locked room or in other unintuitive locations.
- Save and reload the game, or exit the building and re-enter; the advisor may show up in a different location.
- Wait until the jarl goes to bed or wakes up; this will typically cause the advisor to follow or, if locked in a room, to teleport close to the jarl. (This may require you to leave and re-enter or save and reload.)
- Use the following console commands to move directly to the advisor:
sqv DLC1RH07
. Look for the line that starts with Ref 'Vampire' and note the ID in parentheses at the end of that line. Then useplayer.moveto ID
and you should be taken directly to the advisor.

- The following empty quest stages were omitted from the table: 0.
- Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g.,
<Alias=LocationHold>
) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game. - Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
- Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
- If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
- On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering
setstage DLC1RH07 stage
, wherestage
is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest usingresetquest DLC1RH07
