Daggerfall KyngSpdry and Ric's Review
09 February 2011
I have played both Arena and Daggerfall, While I beat Arena I yet to start
any "main" quest in the Daggerfall game. I also have a brother, who is not
as experienced a gamer, playing the game (this really makes those 6
bookmarks scarce!). So I will try to show what we think of the game from
both angles.
- Play Direction:
- KyngSpydr - The game is extremely open-ended a gamer could play just side
quest and try to improve in the guild. This alone is a good virtual
simulation of an alter-world for a alter-ego. I personally like this. I
like to be able to explore the realm without having to pay homage to any
plot. I currently have my character exploring the different providence's
and doing quest for various guilds. Except for the minor kill the damn
zombies this is a good non-linear game.
- Ric - I would like more direction in the beginning to get started and more
guidance on how to finish, and where to go to next. I want a game that has
a set objective and a clearer way to accomplish it.
- Custom Features:
- KyngSpydr - This has got to be the best feature in the game (enough said)
- Ric - I like the options that are available this function really lets a
person make them feel they have a decision on any course to take. At times
especially spell maker this can take away from the game, but I would rather
have than not.
- Bugs/ Flaws:
- KyngSpydr - I think that Bethesda spoke a little too soon on a lot of
special features they were going to include. The game is way too buggy at
first. Bethesda has done a lot to clean the game up to give a rich
environment to play out a VR character. Some features that were buggy were
dropped instead of being fixed this was disappointing, but they still have
a lot more to offer than any other RPG game.
- Ric - Kyng is a lot more patient that I am when it comes to hardware
conflicts and reloading due to programming bugs. This game has too many
bugs now and embarrassing too many on the initial release. I also hate
some of the 'cleaning' they did to save face on the game. They did away
with repairing magic items lowered the amount you can carry on a cart and
nixed some of the more interesting spells. For as much as they have done
there is still more to do.
- Overall:
- KyngSpydr - I like the game overall, I just wish that Bethesda would have
not done as much hype as they did. Some of the things that I wanted to see
and were 'talked' about being done was not in there, and then some
interesting points were just plain dropped (polymorph spell). I do like
the level advancement more than just getting EP for killing monsters (since
I like to play thieves). Overall I would buy the game again and I have
recommended to several people already. This is one the most complete RPG
to come out in a while, this is a rarity in the game world of Doom's and
action oriented players.
- Ric - I' m not sure if I would purchase the game. The graphics are good,
the sounds bring you into the game, and the game flow is okay. Still the
dungeons are way too big and really are not designed to fit function (way
too many sprawling tunnels in a abandoned castle). The 3D engine does not
always work allowing people to go into the "Void". This might have been a
plus if used correctly like a spell of ehterelness (spelling?). I would
like to see a smaller game with more NPC interaction and a true reputation
factor made with the next installment.
